The kitchen waste I toss in the worm bins often have seeds that sprout. That's how I started by butternut squash, potatoes, and somne others. Literally tossed them in, lightly buried them, and forgot about them. Opened up the worm bin and saw the seedlings. I gently removed them, seperated them, and replanted an a small pot. Others were transplanted directly into the garden.

I use vermicompost as a major ingredient in my soil blocks that I use for starting my seeds. I don't really need it for the initial couple of weeks but my soil blocks are made for the life of the plant. The thing is, seeds don't really need the microorganisms and nutrients that come with that compost until a little later. They've got what they need all built in with a few exceptions.
