It's beautiful I wouldn't change anything I think it would be a mistake. If you feel you need to please keep the hardware taped inside a drawer so it can but put back. Anything you do will devalue an antique. If it's not really your taste set it up in a guest room. You'll probably have family staying at times and I'm sure they would appreciate staying in a room with family history. you say you inherited a set could you show the rest of the pieces and the room they will end up in?

It would be pointless to change the hardware since the piece is traditional. The pulls go well with it and I don't think you would find pulls that look better. The burnished brass is lovely. You can certainly mix a traditional piece with more contemporary styles - that's the essence of attractive eclectic homes.

It would also probably be problematic because you would probably discover that the wood behind the pulls are now a different tone.
