You have permission to paint, I imagine? What colours are you drawn to? Usually, it's recommended you choose your paint colour to complement your furnishings. What type of space are you looking to have? Restful, energizing, neutral? A picture of the room with your furnishings in it would help suggest a colour scheme.

This is what the room looks like. There are still items from the last renter in the room.I'm still in the process of cleaning. Its simply horrible. Its so small I feel like I'm going to run out of air at any moment.

Do you have the room dimensions? Can you take a picture of the whole thing, not just walls and floor? It looks like it gets strong sun. What exposure it is? West-facing? Is this a living room? Combo?

If you know you'll be painting, one trick is to prime the walls to help you decide on a colour scheme. It "erases" the current colour and offers your eye a blank slate to imagine a new colour direction.

This is the best shot I could get of both sides. Minus the iteams i havent moved out yet.This is a bedroom. One window faces west and the other north. The light is not in the center of the room so it is actually dark in the room.

Agree with all and I would like to say that we've probably all been where you are.

The very first thing to do is get your linens/bedspread first. You can always match paint to the linens, but the other way around is just very difficult.

Do you have furniture/linens yet?

Don't worry about it feeling claustrophobic. It's because the windows are covered. It will feel much better once that's taken care of. It looks like the ceiling is already white, so there's one thing checked off the list.

I agree with the others. Also, it may be possible for you to switch out the current light bulbs with softer ones if it is a bedroom. I use lamps in my bedroom, I hate the effect of the overhead light.
