We are replacing an old ventless gas fireplace in our living room with a 54 inch linear fireplace that will be closer to the floor so that we can mount a TV at a more optimal viewing distance. We are getting rid of the old TV cabinet and wall mounting a TV instead. The space is in between two french doors and we plan on placing the surround from floor to ceiling.

Any suggestions for stone, tile, etc, to use? I like the look of shiplap, but worry that it might be a passing fad. I like the look of stacked quartzite, but again, too much of a fad? Any suggestions would be most appreciated. I am hoping to stay with a tan and gray mix, as our walls are tan and the adjoining kitchen will have some gray accents. I am attaching photos of the space as well as the quartzite and some faux wood/tile that I saw at a restaurant - but I have no idea what it is.
