The only reason I know it was mush was what felt like after waiting 3-4 or a day dry spell in late fall, I did the initial dig with a large shovel, and then slowly started using the hand shovel to find each one (was planning to relocate them). In one area which I knew the exact spot of a bulb, I got some MUSH. I just sighed, took the tarp, put all the soil back, leveled it back and pushed the mulch back ontop. Eh, we'll see....
