Looks great! I would go with the sheer curtains. The other ones a quite busy, however, they do match the room. I suggest the sheer curtains. They look more elegant which match the formal dining room.

I was leaning towards those also. The thing is they are not pure WHITE. They are more of an off white as the picture showed when ordering. The color is my only hold up from keeping those.

I forgot - I will also be doing different seat covers .

I LOVE the blue and white drapes. The others are meh. Such a pretty room!

    Aren't they both too short?

I could go either way with drapes. Love the light!

A bit. It is that, or I get the longest available 90 something inches , and hem them.. and THAT isn't happening ! lol. I dont know about you , but I cant remember anyones curtains at the homes I visit as to how where they fall - Well --- unless they are wayyyyyy. short . lol

I have hemmed drapes with iron on hem tape...You don't have to sew...

ahh. I didn't think of that ! lol

To get a fuller look, use two panels per side and pull rod out from the window more (where you can). i prefer white and can’t wait to see a photo with the chandelier!

Beautiful so far. Neither drape. Sorry. I like the idea of print and bolder coloring. TIP: please don’t hang that chandelier too high. Current fixture too high. 30-33” from bottom of fixture to table top. I would suggest using pleated drape not grommet style. With rings you extend length. Drapes should just kiss the floor. Don’t ask me why drapery manufacturers make drapes that don’t consider rods and proper lengths for ready mades. Drives me crazy! Check here on Houzz for some great choices and if we find a good fit I can get you my Houzz Trade Program discount of additional 5% off. Not a lot but every little bit counts. I will look for sone options. Bbl

Thank you . I was JUST looking to see if I could use ring with the grommets . I am planing to hang the chandelier in that range you mention . This one there now is WAY to high!!! We are off to the look some more at curtains :) I tried these curtains, but the print /painting threw me off with the curtain . I was thinking that a sheer curtain , would make the room not as heavy as these made the room feel. Once the chandelier is hung, I think I will get a greater MOOD feel :) Thank you .

I think with your blue walls (and they are great!) i would pick up rug coloring in your drapery. Here is one I like

The art isn’t quite right. I would pick up some blue in the art along with white against your blue walls. I am looking for a drape the has white background with smaller scale gray print. With your large pattern in your rug your drapery panels need a smaller scale print to blend nicely. I couldn’t get the proper drapery length on the mock up but mainly wanted to give you visual of white and blue art on your blue wall. ;)

You can’t use rings with grommets. Like seeing a man with a belt and suspenders!!

THANK YOU !!! I was thinking of these at one point..

I can get them any size .. in print or canvas .Replace the art I have now with something like these ? I did figure out the grommets with the rings situation wouldn't work lol lmao.

I put 3 different height and shape blue and white vases on your table and i tried to find a whispy branch of eucalyptus or olive tree in one of the jars. Just to lighten things up.

I think 2 or grouping of 4 would be great. Not crazy about one big piece in your room.

I would be careful you don't get a "craft-like" look in your art. You need a more polished look I think. And this can be accomplished in a budget friendly way. Wait on art until you make drapery decision.

I SCORED today. Well I THINK I DID at least lol ... " 9.99 a panel at Boscov's on a curtain closeout.. Bring the rug and wall color in with a tinge of green in the center of the flower. The fabric is fantastic.. Rings bring the curtain to PERFECT length ...

These are a definite improvement - especially on rings. Question for you: is there any option to swap out your rod end finials for something that doesn't contrast in tone? I think, since you have dark hardware here on a dark wall, that a disconnected light accent doesn't serve your larger goal of focusing the eye on the window and the fabric framing it.

As you attach these to rings around the room, make sure you're "training" the drapery panels the right way to create a composed pleat when gathered - here's a great tutorial from young house love on how to do it. Once you steam them out, it's super easy (her instructions on hanging are literally just a paragraph in that longer article - just a little knowledge) but the results are undeniable.

Also, if there's any way these are expandable rods, I would bump out the overall length just a hair so these drapes "stack off" your windows a bit more, too - adds presence and makes each window seem more important. Then it also gives you updated guardrails about how much wallspace you have left over to decorate with art to infill.

Awesome! A real find. What makes these work is the light background. So happy the rings worked so you don’t have to hem. Yippee!!

@ Fairway ---- Thanks for the advice!!! .. I was looking for different ends tonight, but couldn't find the right amount in the same metal. I had a whole different drape and idea when I bought those. I just expanded the rods like you advised. PERFECT !! Thank you for the tutorial! I never hung drapes with these before I had no idea. I was also so excited to hang the pair, I couldn't wait to steam them . Tomorrows job after the chandy install :). Thank you again !

You got it. With a couple blue accents like Flo has pictured, I think you're on a roll here. Even a wall-mounted platter in classic Blue Willow or even silver would be timeless on a rich, saturated blue wall tone like you've got. And I envy your stain-grade K door and French entry doors. This is a great space.

ETA: one trick I forgot to add - make sure your outermost ring on each panel is outside the bracket so that when you grab the leading edge to close the drape, the bracket holds the outer edge of the panel in place. Also helps your outer edge to sit even further out (almost like a drapery return if you're not using an eye), which is a plus even if you never open/close the panels!

@ fairway. Thanks . When we moved in here ( EIGHT YEARS AGO !! ) we really didnt have to touch it. BUT some rooms were outdated-- ALOT . Hubby is PRAYING FOR SPRING TO COME ! lmao lol.

Those new ones look great! And what a price!

I am the jerk that DOES notice when other people's curtains are the wrong length. But I never say anything unless they are asking for advice ;)

    I would
Like to see white or light cream to light gold curtains with your elegant furniture .....bold will make it look like a country kitchen dining room ...perhaps it's what you like ? Go with your instinct and what you want to accomplish in your dining room . Elegance , country look , modern ...remember , less is more !

And God said--- 'Let there be light "

Picture removed.. new end caps for rods.. other two sets of curtains coming this week. :). Chandy is at 29" inches above the table . It IS lower than I wanted. I didn't figure in the crystal drop . sigh. I can remove the bottom layer( it wont look any different other than one row less) , which would be 3 inches up from the table "the perfect height". IF the electrician says we can't remove two links. We had a bear of a time due to the canopy cap not big enough to slide over the links , but we did it : )

  • PRO

Wow! That is a lot bigger than I envisioned? Maybe it is just the photo. I do think it is too low which makes it appear even larger. What is its width and how wide is your table? Raising it is important. And I know it is a bear to hang these and they are heavyyy too! But it is too low. Sorry. You will like it better 3" higher.

Such a difference. To my eye, looks like height is right - close enough to light seated faces and the table surface for service. Plus, your table is large enough that it'll always be central in the space. Just checking: is the fixture already on a dimmer? That can make such a difference to have full control over wattage at all times so people (and food!) are always in just the right amount of light.

ETA: you may also think about a white silk chain cover on this one, too. It's a finishing touch I like in a formal dining space where links aren't usually a decorative statement. They're adhesed on one side so you just close them around your existing chain - no need to sleeve it over mid-install - once you get it set to the right length.

Laure Fogelman thanked Fairway Style Living
  • 7 years ago

You can be best judge of how it looks in your room, so just take my comments as "input" and do what you feel looks best in your room. It is a very pretty chandelier and being on a dimmer is a big plus. I too like the chain covers.

Royal Designs Cord/Chain Cover, 4', Touch Fastener, Maroon · More Info

As Fairway mentioned they typically have a Velcro closing seam running up and down and you just place it over the chain and close up and crunch it up. They come in all colors and fabric types. The silk ones look great in a dining room.

@ flo -- The light is 28" circ. Table is 43" wide. we don't have the other leaf in it, but right now it is at 80" length . I have seen the chain covers before, but I really don't care for them .

You could also do all black walls and then some striking wall hangings for a simpler approach yet still eye catching. Paint the lower cabinet glossy black.

I used this as inspiration on a small bathroom for a houzz poster a couple years ago, and we were able to find the photo, download it with a "downloadable" file and frame it then hang it on a black wall. It turned out great. Might be easier change for you to make.

Love the chandelier! It is bold and opulent and once you have all your drapes, nice and full, and accessories to add silver etc. it will all come together. Someone mentioned platters. I also could see candle wall sconces on either side of a painting. Lovely room!
