I agree that taking out trim for style esthetics is not reasonable. In this case, the entire space is a complete refinish including baseboards.

Use a 1 x 6 or 1 x 4 and add NO trim to it. It can't get an easier. or crisper. Scribe to the floor. Works just about EVERYWHERE. Door and window casing should relate same, smaller. Throughout the house.

Just want to add to the idea trim out is expensive and change gets you no more money just because it is 'on trend'. Sister added on to her home sun room and redid kitchen. Dumped the DARK stained oak for maple. Because the trim USUALLY matches the cabinetry they did a complete re-trim of their home at the same time. 20 years later she attempted to sell the house. She got no where near what the trim out cost in the resale. The matching got her nowhere financially. I bet there are very few who even notice baseboard trim out unless you are talking an historic home where the baseboards were quite a feature.

Baseboard trends , now there is a new headache waitng to happen. You do the same baseboards as you have in the rest of the house and I agree 1x4 or 1x6 in a contemporary space.

It seems like everyone else had the same reaction I did to "baseboard trends" that I did. Baseboard styles should be driven by the style of the house and match throughout the house. Trends should not be a consideration.

Whats going on with the rest of the house, I think I would match it.
