I want to mount a full-length mirror (24” x 71”, about 20–22 lbs) on the interior side of the door between my kitchen and attached garage.

The door is not wood (on the exterior) and appears to have some type of metal outer skin, but I don’t know exactly what it’s made of or how it’s constructed internally. I’ve attached photos of the front and edge of the door in case someone can identify what type it is.

I considered heavy-duty Command strips, but I’m not comfortable trusting them with this much weight. I also considered Gorilla mounting tape, which is rated for up to 45 lbs, but the back of the mirror is recessed, so only the perimeter would actually contact the door. I’m also concerned that the Gorilla tape would be very difficult to remove and could permanently damage the door.

So I’m leaning toward mounting the mirror traditionally with screws. Is it safe to drill into this type of metal-faced door, especially since it’s the door between the house and attached garage? Would screws securely hold a 20–22 lb mirror on it, and if so, what type of screws or anchors should I use? Or is there a better mounting method?
