How about an electrically charged door. That will teach them to stop scratching. Seriously though, any paint will be scratched by dogs. A steel door is usually better for a garage door anyway, but the paint and trim will need touching up frequently if your dogs are doing that.

Steel, absolutely. Dogs are incompatible with wood doors and vice versa.

Thanks for the suggestions; I believe steel is the way to go! Isn’t steel usually painted so wouldn’t it still be a problem? I’m hoping my dog is settling down since moving here in November.

Their nails will still scratch a painted steel door. You can get plastic panels that stick on to protect the paint.

There are three types of doors, which are allowed to install there - 1. fire rated 20 minutes; 2. metal hollow or solid door; 3. solid wood door not less than 1 3/8" thick. Even if you take the metal door - you will still have scratches, because paint tends to chip off whenever you touch it. We would recommend a door with some durable finish, like eco veneers. They can be of different thickness and different durability. On some of them you won't even see the marks even if you cut it.
