Do you want a big flowered clematis? I added Betty Corning last summer, it’s small flowered but it bloomed almost all summer. I loved seeing the small blue blooms for such a long time. I was so impressed I’m thinking seriously about adding another in a different part of my gardens.

Thanks Sherry and lilyfinch- I think I’m going to go with Comtesse in this particular location because I’m going for a pink there. I have admired Betty Corning before though.... if I can find a way to have one... like maybe on an obelisk...? That might be really pretty in my very sunny south bed.

Betty is gorgeous, but a big bruiser of a plant, so if you put her on an obelisk, it needs to be a really big one.

Yes, Betty grows huge and also in all directions, very unruly but fabulous. Huldine is also a really tall grower but not in all directions. I have her growing up a mature purple leaf plum tree and she reaches the top......

I like Barbara Harrington better than the Comtesse. I like brighter colors. I grow Barbara and she is not a terribly strong grower for me but she is in a bed with compacted clay soil that I cannot dig up due to mature shrubs I don't want to disturb. I planted her before I learned that digging up and amending the entire bed or at least extremely big holes is best for Clemmies. I just shoved them in holes in clay at first. Lost many.....

Giselle seems to me to be a pretty subtle pink color. I got one last year from Donahues and it finally has a bud on it.
