Please help decide! Can’t choose anything!

Hello *waves* I have spent DAYS going back and forth between what mirror to put above my nightstand. The problem is, all of the mirrors that I like, the width is wider than my nightstand. I think it will look funny. Could you guys help? I am ready to tear my hair out, and I already don’t have much hair left.

My nightstand is 22” wide and 28” high. Some of the mirrors are longer than the length of the nightstand. Would this look odd?

I also cant decide on a lamp. But, I think I have narrowed it down to these three. I like the mini chandelier one best, but it doesn’t have much presence.

Thank you, Tartan and Lyn for your help! You are right, now that I’m getting used to it, it does fit the space much better! I uploaded a few more pictures to my idea book (thank you Lyn for posting here for me) but is it me or does the bed look too small now? Does it look okay?

I’m Still waiting for the mirror to come in. I also look a picture of each lamp... any way one of them can work? I’ve been looking at ones with a crystal base and regular lampshade but would rather not spend the extra money if possible.

I also had had a thought to put one of old nightstands next to the chaise. What do you think? Does it look too tall for the chaise?

Yes, I do like bling! Lol. I think it’s too make up for how simple I really am. Now I see why you’re bothered by my bed, Lyn, because yours looks so relaxing, nice and fluffy!

Tartan, I need a TV in the bedroom. :) I always leave it on for white noise I cannot stand silence. It goes back to my lonely childhood, being the only child of refugees who worked around the clock, no other family. I always was by myself, after school, on the weekends. So I can’t take silence. I would like to get a bench at the foot of the bed, and out the dresser with tv across from that but right now the space from the foot of the bed to the wall is only 85 inches.

I dont one have any overhead lighting in the bedroom, the ceilings are not even and high (will upload photo in ideabook) but there is recessed lighting in the sitting room and the mini hallway going to the bathroom.

To my eye, the nightstands look too tall for your bed and that makes me wonder if your bed is recent. Recent beds all seem to have high mattresses. At first glance, your bed looks like a double to me, not a queen-size. But that might be a terribly silly thing to think just by looking at pictures.

Honestly, I think those lamps would be pushing the bling a bit much. I don't mind the mirrors over mirrored nightstands but I'd restrain myself with the lamps and choose something white and opaque, I think. Love alabaster lamps and affordable options of the look can be found. Heck, thrift store lamps can be spray painted as well.

This one has a bit of glass which can be considered "blingy" by some. :) Affordable option from Wayfair. I like the texture of the square column as well. No clue if the height and size would work though - I'm clueless about size rules and the like.

Would the nightstand next to the chaise be useful at that height? If so, then yes! It's your room and it's important that it please YOU and suit your needs before anyone else's.

Have you found a bench you like? What size do you need? Plenty of options on Wayfair that would suit a glam bedroom.

I love bling also, that's why I like your thread. :) I think the bed seems a little off in relation to the nightstands. Maybe you could consider a mattress topper to beef up the mattress and give it some height?

Always, I’m glad you are getting used to your nightstands! At the risk of sounding like a broken record your mattress needs a topper! Here is a pic of my guest room. It is a queen size bed; large chest! It has a nice big topper on the mattress!!!

Hello everyone, I received the mirror today and am disappointed that it’s smaller than expected. i thought it would be 27” at the base, but it’s actually 27” at the widest point. I added 2 photos under “bedroom” do you think it looks okay? I also took one of another mosaic mirrored panel I already have that’s looking for spot. Which one do you think looks better?

Thanks in in advance for everyone’s help.

Thanks Lyn for the photo of the topper. Now I see what you mean. I’m not sure if I should get anything else for the bed right now because the current size seems too small now...

lshack, I am hesitant to get anything else for my current queen bed though because I feel like the big nightstands are dwarfing the bed, and now a king is needed to fill the space. Do you think so?

Tartan, yes I did find some lamps :) I posted it in the Ideabook. I like the one with the bling across the shade the most. Which do you think would look best?

Everdebz, I like the mini chandelier lamp the most, but now that the mirror is here, I see how it’s too much. I posted some lamp options in my ideabook (sorry I have continued to try to upload here but it won’t show up).

Hi always, I think the size of your room would look great with a king bed and could certainly handle it. However, only you know the budget and if you can make that purchase . The Queen bed will be fine with a mattress topper.

Always, can you take a photo like this one standing further back so we can get all of the night stands in the pic?

I don’t think either of those mirrors work. Whenever you order anything the measurements are always for the very widest or highest points on a piece. Ordering on line can be a disappointment! You could go to Home goods and find a pair of mirrors and if they don’t fit it’s an easy return! I have found mirrors just like these there on more than a few occasions!

If you can afford or are in the market for a new bed then yes!! Get a king!

I hope you can see that a much simpler mirror style suites this chest! This is about as much bling as a lamp should get here! It’s even more than I would like!
    alwaysundecided thanked lynartist
Those blingy lamps you have just disappear into the mirrors! They just don’t work at all!

I like these lamps that you had in your idea book. The first one. Very simple and clean to balance the mirrored surfaces.

The beauty of having the mirrors is that you juxtapose something completely different next to them!

FWIW, I bought that silver chrome crystal lamp from Pier 1 imports for my mom and it’s been fabulous. It is heavy, solid, the crystals are not cheap looking or feeling at all, and when it’s on, it throws the most magical light show around the room. We really love it.

I love crystal lamps; have them in my bedroom! But when you put something shiny on top of something shiny string in front of something shiny it looses t it’s impact and just doesn’t look special!

But I certainly like them more than the original lamps you have so.....

Much as I like the scroll-y 2-shade lamp, not sure I like its lines near lines of nightstand's front.

Thanks so much everyone for your time and help in helping me try achieve my dream bedroom.

I think I am going to leave the decision on upgrading to a king bed last because that’s at least a $1,000+ for a new mattress, headboard, sheets, etc and I still have a ways to go with new lamps, bench, dresser and chest. I was happy (still am happy) with my current queen but the new nightstands make it look out of proportion...

I still very much like the mirror that I bought, just surprised that it was smaller than I expected. I thought it would be 4 inches wider. I really don’t want to have to ship it back, so my question is, does it look okay being so much smaller than the nightstand?

Everdebz, I actually like the lamp you posted! I think 25” is too short though, I was looking at 29” or higher.

The lamp I really like most in my ideabook is the one with a strip of rhinestones across the shade. Would that work with my current set up?

@alwaysundecided- I have the same exact night stands (mirrored double doors) in our bedroom! We have a Cal King sleigh bed however, and windows with plantation shutters behind the night stands!

Like yourself, I like the 'bling', and have two small (1/3 the size of the night stands) bling chandeliers above each of the nightstands in our bedroom. LOVE THEM!

We have a faux alligator skin bench at the foot of the bed, with two very large mirrored dressers at either sides of the foot of the bed (sounds crowded, but actually plenty of room for all the furniture). Our space may be a 'designers nightmare', but my husband and I love it!

I think taste is very subjective, and this is your bedroom and your place of serenity, decorate it the way YOU would enjoy it. :) :)

Jora, thank you. Your bedroom sounds beautiful! Can you post pics so I can get ideas from you? My problem is: I only like certain pieces, but they don’t always go together, and I don’t know how to tie it together. Was hoping for help with that here.

everdebz, I tend to shop online more because I don’t have time to shop at brick and motar stores. I usually browse Wayfair, Birchlane, and Hayneedle.

Lyn, I stopped by Home Goods tonight as you suggested and got the plain beaded mirrors. I got a smaller one (but bigger than the Venetian mirror I ordered online) and a bigger one. I uploaded it to my ideabook. I love that it is bigger (that’s what I wanted with the Venetian mirror) BUT I don’t like the style/plain-ness....

    What do I do?!?! Lol

Size wise, does the original mirror work? Or too much space in between mirror and edge of nightstand?

Always, I can’t force you to like something! But I can tell you that this looks great! I even added crystal lamps just for you!
You can do the tall one too ; just make sure you get a big enough lamp!

alwaysundecided - I'd love to post pix but I'm a pretty private person (sorry).

Like yourself, I like certain things (that may not always mesh together), and I buy them and then play around (often moving them from place to place/room to room), until I have an 'aha' moment.

I think you are doing great on your own, and the only thing you are missing is 'self confidence'. Remember, this is YOUR space and no one knows your taste (or has to live with it), other than you and whomever lives with you. We can all share with you our taste/suggestions/etc., but ultimately you are the decision maker.

Having said all that, I personally think having night stand (regardless of it being mirrored or not), with a mirror in the back, no longer leaves room for a lamp - too crowded. As well, I think the whole purpose of a night stand is to place things on top of them, and if you have a lamp there it takes away from useable space. Have you considered/thought about small hanging chandeliers placed directly above the nightstands? Low enough so that you can see some of the crystal reflections in the mirror, but not too low that it takes away from the visibility of the mirror?

Well always, if you don’t like them at least they are easily returned. Just bring them back.
Always, here is the mirror you have. Just hang it and enjoy it :)! It’s what you love.
And as Jora says, I think you will do just fine , good luck with your space.
I love the cheap back of door mirrors from Walmart. Rub n buff it will silver and maybe some gold - add some fancy molding to the top or glue on the rhinestone strips to it up. Allow the mirror to drop below the top of the nightstand as a lovely backdrop to reflect light. Good luck!
