The termite inspector was unable to access certain areas of our crawlspace because apparently when the house was remodeled, 2 holes were dug for posts, and the dirt was just left there in the crawlspace. The termite inspector suggested calling a foundation company to remove the dirt. I just had an estimate prepared and it came to $8,000. That’s crazy, right? Just to move some dirt out? Is it much more complicated than I realize? The termite inspector also suggested adding another entrance to the crawlspace on the other side of the house. Is that a better way to go? Or maybe just assume that we do have subterranean termites (even though partial inspection showed no evidence) and treat that? Maybe that would be cheaper than these other options?
