If the tulips are onto their second year I wouldn't expect too much. But many spring bulbs transplant fine if you get a good root ball. Snowdrops, Crocuses, daffodils, Hyacinths and Leucojums are all ones I've moved in leaf.

The only bonus is the light scraping under the mulch, I can spot each bulb as the leaves has just stopped right below the mulch - so I know at least roughly where the bulbs areas are

I've never moved any this early in the year, so I don't know how fragile or not it will be

The earlier in the year, the less fragile. But I've just last week moved snow drops and Leucojums in full flower. They're fine.

Move them with a good clump of soil. Don't try to separate the roots or clean the bulbs. Just get a spade full of earth with the bulbs in it.

With minimal (or no) root disturbance, they'll never know they were moved.

Heh. It's been a dry week. Got some snow, snow has melted. Bulbs must be happy as Many have decided to peek for sun past the mulch. I guess they appreciate the ~drink~
