Kitchen remodel snafu

We have had our kitchen gutted and remodeled. All was moving along nicely. The cabinets are in and marble countertops installed along with the sinks. The appliances arrived and were installed this past week. We have a new Bluestar 48 inch range top installed - the range top of our dreams!! It appears that the stove is 1/8 inch smaller on the right rear side then the front right side. This means the marble countertop is flush on either side of the range top, however, as you move front to back, an 1/8 inch gap ( just enough for food to fall down between countertop and stove) begins to develop between the counter top and range. We have measured over and over again and it is not the marble or the cabinets or the rear wall. It is the Bluestar. We have calls into our appliance dealer as well as Bluestar customer service. No solution as of yet. We have nothing left from our marble slabs, so we can't just do another marble countertop to fit flush. Has anyone ever run into this?

Vevmom made it pretty clear that it is the rangetop and not the counter or cabinets that is out of square.

If you can't get resolution from BS, Vev, would a bead of clear caulk be too ugly? it would have to be refreshed every so often of course.

Got photos? How bad does it look?

I will try to post pictures. We had our contractor measure, his men measure, my husband measured. We will measure the diagonal. However, none of the other measurements were out of square.

Yes, measure both diagonals. They should be exactly the same if the opening is square. It *is* possible for side measurements to be identical but the diagonals different if the opening is out of square - that is known in geometry as a parallelogram.

Measuring diagonals is fairly common in construction - used to check window openings, doorways, etc.

If you don't end up swapping it out, I'd caulk it with a color complimentary to your countertop. That's what we have. In fact, even if you get a rangetop that's perfectly square, you might still want to caulk the seam, since liquid could still drip into it.

Seen it a lot. The opening isn't square, or the floor isn't level. Or both. Pull it out. Measure the diagonals of the opening. Put a level on the floor. Put a level across the opening on the diagonals. Use a framing square. Use a laser to check if both sides if he opening are the same in and out. There's up&down, left and right, and in and out. All of those have to line up. When they don’t line up, you get what you have.

Please don't be offended that many here are telling you that you, your husband, and your contractors all don't know how to measure or figure out whether something is square or not. Actually, go ahead and be offended. I'm offended for you! :)

I can't tell how bad it looks from the photos. Some gap is expected, but ideally it would be an even gap.

"However, none of the other measurements were out of square."

    That doesn't matter unfortunately.

I don't believe any of us mean to offend the OP when suggesting they check for squareness. Given what we have seen over the years here on Houzz, anything is possible so we can't assume that was checked by the contractor.

I am not offended. I have spent a year reading these forum posts and planning our kitchen. I appreciate suggestions and comments, I do not have a thin skin, I will let you know what happens tomorrow, when the contractor returns and we also get some more info from Blue Star.

No women measured. That's the problem. The other problem is the discrepancy is only on one side of the rangetop. Which makes it unlikely it's out of square. Take the rangetop out and measure across side to so side at the front and back of the opening. Then do the diagonals and report back. Remember, you do it.
