hard to say..I'm proud of almost all of them!..some that I really love - Krossa Regal..Elegans..Blue Mouse Ears

My best is definitely BlueMouseEars. It was eaten down to nothing, ripped out of the ground by I don’t know what and I just shoved it back in the ground AND divided it and it all did fine. I don’t think I could kill that one if I tried.

Several of mine leaped last year and I was pretty thrilled. Brother Stefan, Squash Casserole, Frosted Dimples.

My best grower is Cathedral Windows. Too bad it looks like “@&$ most of the summer due to being fried by the sun!

Thank goodness there's a lot that are doing well. I'll give a special nod to Victory and Silk Kimono for how much growth they've put on over the last few years.

Arc de Triomphe has gotten so large, is graceful looking, and a real beauty. Also resists burning longer than others around it. ....Helpful that it's got a sprinkler near its base. :-)

That Brother Stefan is exquisite. If mine grows up to look like that I think I would never leave the garden. I’d just sit and make googly eyes at it all day

It almost tripled in size

My Captain Kirk and SunPower took a great leaped last season. I was really impressed with these 2 . Steady growth was Komodo dragon and Bridal fall.

Such beauties! I could only hope mine look like these one day. The only one I do not have is LS Prophecy Fulfilled and it is among the top on my wish list!

In general mine did not perform to their best this past year. Hail then drought with no additional water did them no favors.

There was one though that took a nice leap....

peren..Cherry Flip does have a much prettier shape..if I had a dime for every stick, ash seed, acorn etc that pierced a hosta leaf I could buy a lot of new hosta..Lol

Saija..I see your photos!..I agree that F Hyacinthina and LS Prophecy Fulfilled deserve a best rating..

In spite of 3 years of unfavorable hosta weather, here are a few that seem strong enough to overcome.

I give Dark Star my "best looking" award, for the year.

First Frost never fails

Goodness Gracious performs great in this spot

Tobacco Road, another that loves its location

Star Power, a star performer in spite of poor site conditions

LS Prophesy Fulfilled, Climax, Arc de Triomph...drool...

Best of the year is a tough one, Regal Splendor and Krossa Regal never disappoint but mine goes to Komodo Dragon.

old dirt - I may have to copy your Komodo Dragon planting. It's absolutely breathtaking. I have a whiskey barrel, but it's in almost full sun right now. Moving it would be a huge chore, and it might fall apart if we tried (it's been around-the-block so-to-speak). Maybe I'll try to think of where I could place an additional barrel and get a newer 2nd one. I just love the way that upright, but full, hosta looks elevated that way. And the whole setting is lovely.

windymess, thank you. I am concerned when some day I will have to replace the media in that barrel. I guess I will wait until the hosta starts to show signs of stress or decreases in size. I hope to add another whiskey barrel next year in a totally different way.

Took a few years but Seducer and Wheee! finally took off. Loved seeing Seducer in a gentle breeze, leaves gently moving in the wind and Wheee! strengthened up and just looked fun.

old dirt - Yikes! I hadn't thought about that. My back hurts just imagining. I think it would take a couple people to wrestle that thing out of the barrel.

Sunnywood, isn't it wonderful when so many hosta do well in one season! Your Climax and Brother Stefan are so large and pretty!

I would have to say that the "best" award would have to go to Atlantis. Not only has it grown well, but it actually has been growing in a pot (same pot) in the ground for three years! I was thinking of dividing it, but how am I going to do that? The roots may actually go round and round in the pot and out the drainage holes! I will probably dig around the pot this spring and see if I find any hosta roots growing outside the pot and work from there. You can see the pot in the picture below.

The bet I can remember from this year and waiting for sring would be my winter snow

My memory is fogged but I think this is winter snow and can't see one of my hosta at present. Spring, I am waiting for you

I posted War Paint on the Hosta Worst of 2018. The same thing happened to my Gypsy Rose. It started off growing nicely:

and then it began to shrink (due to inexperience with potting media and repotting frequency). I took what was left of it and planted it into the ground.

I did not move it at all after planting in 2016. Here is what it looked like in 2018:

Now that's something that I can feel good about clicking a "like" on! What a great come back!

What a great comeback AND what a beautiful hosta! I had to keep going back and looking at that first picture!
