A plainer less “busy” pattern would work, altho I quite like the one you have there now. But its your home, not mine. CeleryGirl has shown you several very suitable ones, but be wary of the Berber or any heavily textured rug around food. They can be a bear to get food or drink off of.

Well you have contemporary in the living room and seemed to have mixed styles in the dining room: some farmhouse, some transitional. I think your light table and chairs would be set off in a better fashion if the rug was predominantly blue but the blue on your furniture pieces have a green undertone so finding the right color rug will be tricky.

The light fixture does nothing for your room.......too small & wrong finish so I would consider replacing it. The round mirror is too small for the wall in the back so you might consider larger wall decor.

@celerygirl, thanks for sharing links! I get stuck in a rut with always looking at the same stores all. the. time. I like the brightness of the very last rug you suggested and the jute rug too. I tried adding a jute rug to the master, but it hurt my feet when walking on it barefoot so it went back to world market!

@RL Location LLC, we’ve only had it for a year. I think it’s too small for the table. Found it at a consignment store.. so the investment wasn’t too hefty. It was an impulse buy just to finish the space off

@beverlyFLADeziner, thank you so much for your thoughtful advice. I agree, chandelier definitely needs to go. It doesn’t fit the space and not our style anymore. I should move the small wooden round over the sideboard.. and add bigger art to the wall as you suggested. Our style is mostly clean lines and simple. Is it okay to have one style of lighting in the dining room and another style in the rest of the downstairs living area?

I don't think that light fixture is bad, it's hung a little high, and the art behind it is throwing it off. it accomplishes your clean lines and does not overwhelm the space. a nice centerpiece could solve the problem. I'm not sure a heavy fixture fits your taste IMO.
