Don't any of you check your trees blossoms to see how many of them are perfect? I always assumed that all blossoms produced were perfect and to learn that this is not true is very interesting. I also learned that the imperfect flower very easily falls off the tree.

I have noticed imperfect blooms several times, but always made excuses for them! One tree, struggling Rangpur lime often has odd shaped blooms, hasn't stopped it from fruiting off and on! The Meyer has so many flowers I always assumed that the imperfect ones were from being squished as a bud or not given enough room to grow all round! The Eureka had imperfect blooms the first year, and none of the little peppercorn size fruits that formed ever did anything other than turn black and fall off! I will have to be more discerning, I see!

I have contacted a lot of so-called citrus experts and they have no idea what's causing it. I have received general possibilities like environment and temps, but that makes no sense as all my trees have perfect flowers as well.

The only thing that ever gave my local growers imperfect, half opened, contorted flowers or dropped off were thrips getting to them as they were developing and or mites. But you have bug free trees right, which tells me the same in your case)

Imperfections in flowers are a part of nature. That is why they produce far more flowers than needed as an insurance against these things. You will see them in animals too where some produce large number of litters or lay more eggs. Some will be weak, imperfect or not hatch and lose offprings in one or another. Survival of the fittest is what nature forces on all living beings.
