What REAL rose nurseries used to be like...

If you're a bit later to the game and were never able to order from Joseph Kern Nursery in Mentor, Ohio, you have a treat in store for you! I have just uploaded their1970-71 Old and New Roses catalog to Help Me Find. Four hundred and forty-four roses of all types were available budded and for remarkably low prices viewed through today's eyes. Plus two roses for which there is nothing in the database... "Big Piccadilly, a larger flowered version of Piccadilly" and "Marblehead, a red and white striped, very fragrant HT" which was sold into the mid 1980s by Ernest Vash at Historical Roses, also in Mentor. The eleven page catalog mailed for a whopping six cents postage!

Pickering was a bit like them. Vintage, at its heyday was a bit like them. Hortico has approached them. No one else in this part of the world around these days comes close.
