I dont plan to change the backsplash. i meant dark brown color for the cabinets. something like this

Google gel stain. This was quite the topic for a few years here. Many have done it with really nice results.

Unless you have them professionally painted, I painting them will cheapen the look.

Yes, maybe there will some here who have painted there own, but it is very time consuming and not easy to get it looking professional.

Have you considered doing at least the island cabinets in white, if not all of them. It might help pull out the small amount of white from the brown counters and backsplash and brighten up the space.

Espresso cabinets that you pictured in your second post are dated. I can see no benefit or improvement in your kitchen by taking the current cabinets and making them dark.

I think you will get enough contrast with the brown counters, backsplash and floors. At some point you could always paint the walls taupe or gray which could bring the space together nicely.

I think it would like nice.

I like the two tone kitchens as well! A white island would brighten up the area!

Highly recommend getting them professionally re-done in white. will look like a brand new kitchen. Cost should be around $3500. For re-sale do not consider 2 tone/its just too personal and not everyone will care for it. Be aware that not all painters produce same quality with the cabinets. Ours look brand new-they were sprayed and look factory finished., Have seen others that you can totally tell that they were painted. Ask to see past work etc

What a difference, nice job. Did you paint them or have them professionally done. As for handles silver tones would be my recommendation. Gain great job

I'd say silver/nickel handles, maybe a brushed or heirloom finish (rather than too shiny). Or you could be zany with some coppery ones (not super shiny copper, more like an older one). Buy a few pairs of different shapes and finishes and bring them into the kitchen, so you can get a good idea of what works in your kitchen. That's what receipts are for.

If you later decide you want more color, you can always do the island or repaint the walls. How long did the project take you?
