Prague citsuma update

Hi guys. I wanted to let everyone know how the little tree was doing. Last night we had a low of 22 here and I did not cover it at all. Here are photos. It does not look happy, but not near death either. I think tomorrow will be the last day in the 30s for a while. The low tonight will not be be as low as last night. Hoping for warm weather soon!

I stand corrected. I think it went down to 20. Keep in mind Mike that it is grafted onto FD and that I have NO idea if the fruit is any good ;) . That said, I think at least four of six cuttings I took are going to make it. One is sprouting growth. They are all still green, so fingers crossed that I have some to share with my friends.

Laura, if it made it through all that! Please let me have a cutting rooted or not. Now that is one I would have hope in...AWESOME

Even for trees that are pretty cold tolerant as adults, like the Satsuma orange, I still cover them on seriously subfreezing nights when they are so small. If you are surviving while that small, surely it will be even more tolerant once it gets some thickness to it!

Laura, please, correct me if I am wrong. Do you get winters anywhere close to what I get? wind chills of below 0 many times and lows into the single digits? Snow, blizzards and the like? I always imagined you living in an area with harsh winters like me. NO?

By the way, you are so very kind. If you have winter a heck of a lot milder than mines, it may not be a good idea, I don't know. Ugh. This is my area today. 24 degrees today. Spring may come next month.

Hey Mike! In Annapolis it is not as cold as where you live. We may get a few days with lows into the teens once or twice a winter, but the majority of the time it is in the 40s and 30s for highs with lows into the 20s and 30s. I am not sure it would make it where you live. I hope someday to try the fruit so I can decide whether it is worth the trouble.
