Drum bulb for Speed Queen dryer

My SQ dryer bulb has burnt out (less than 2 years old). SQ p/n is 60954. Bulb is over $12 each and not locally available. I've been told there's a Whirlpool equivalent (W10857122) which is about half the price. But still...

As best I can tell from what little info I've found online, the Whirlpool bulb is 7w.

Looks like a standard candelabra base.. is there any reason I couldn't use a 7w nightlight replacement bulb? I mean, what makes something like that so special that I couldn't use a standard bulb for it? It only comes on when the dryer door is opened. And for about $1 apiece, I can replace them a lot cheaper if they turn out to be not very heat tolerant vs the $12 specialty bulbs.

Yes, your link for the Whirlpool bulb states the wattage, but I was referring to the SQ bulb under its part number.

I've seen small similar bulbs of slightly higher wattage, 10 or 15 watts.

A search for 10S6 finds 10 watts. 10 = watts. S6 = bulb type.

Is the burned-out bulb labeled for wattage? Can be difficult to read if etched into the base. I searched the SQ P/N, found several sources online but none reference the wattage.

The nightlight bulb should work. I've used those on other dryer brands.

The only wattage I've seen referenced comes from the link in my OP. I can only assume it's the equivalent to the OEM bulb.

The OEM bulb simply says (on the base) 10S6/120V. There's no writing of any kind I can find on the bulb. It has a bit of an odd shaped glass body.. but if the Whirlpool bulb pictures I've seen are accurate, they resemble the standard candelebra based night light... and not the OEM bulb that needs to be replaced. I figure as long as the bulb fits in the receptacle, I'm good.

OK, thanks for that. But how is that better than four 7w bulbs for $4? Oh, I see... it's about 58 cents better!

I also couldn't find any specs for the OEM 60954 bulb. Thanks for decoding the 10S6 for me. So 10w is the number. Good to know.

While I don't need 6 of them, I wonder if this LED bulb would work as a replacement?

@mrb6228 that tip about Batteries Plus was perfect. Turns out the big box stores and WalMart didn't have the 10S6 bulb in stock. But Batteries Plus did. $5, while pricey, was still cheaper than $12+ for the OEM bulb from local appliance repair shops.

Cautionary tale (and maybe make someone happy!):

basically same story, dark in there instead of light. i read what I had to, bought the new bulb(s) - came in a two- pack.

Took out philips screw, dropped down bulb cover. Easy peezy!

Grasped the culprit bulb, and as I did this, it flickered ON!

That sucker was LOOSE not burned out!

That was at least two years ago.

Stay with me here. TODAY I put my just washed KEEN sandals in the dryer (cloudy day, no sun). boomed aroundthe drum. Crap! No light. Thought msybe bulb couldn't take the thumping and blew out. NOPE. The assembly was LOOSE, I tightened bulb in place, and LET THERE BE LIGHT it went on.

That damn 2-pack of bulbs might be part of my estate.

TIGHTEN BULB FIRST.

5 minutes tops to take out philips head screw, remove plastic cover and hand tighten bulb. Maybe save yourself trip to the hardware store
