I have better luck searching these forums with google. Google "plant name" and "gardenweb".

If you do post photos and they don't show up, just reply to your first comment and try again. The forum can misbehave.

at the top of the page... where it says Houzz ... is a search bar ... the base problems are such:

its hard to key into a specific forum .....

i believe it searches titles.. and too many peeps dont make searchable titles ...

and third.. i agree.. its better to go to an independent search engine as explained above ...

Not at all!! Just start with a forum the question is most likely to be discussed - in the case of the aeonium, I'd pick Cacti and Succulents. Then enter your search topic into the search bar at the very top of your screen. As you type, you will notice that the search is concentrated in that forum (although other options are provided). Once the search topic is entered, hitting the search symbol will concentrate it in that specific forum. There are 239 discussions that address this plant specifically.

And it doesn't search just by titles. This thread - about half way down the first page of search results - only mentions the plant briefly in the body of the thread.

I actually find the GW/Houzz search feature to be remarkably effective :-) It just takes some familiarity with the process and how to go about it to generate the best results. But if you do so, it does work and works very well!!

I think the "Gardening" forum is part of Houzz, not Gardenweb. It used to automatically load Gardening as a default forum to post to, but now you have to type it in. It's either gardening or gardens, can't remember.

^^ Correct - the Gardens forum is not part of GW and tends not to be frequented by the real gardening gurus :-) But most posters new to the website seem only to be able to enter via Houzz so miss the huge list of gardening only forums available on GW.

i try that 'search' in the top of the page, and even though I KNOW there are posts of what i am asking...it shows me nothing. Thought there was a trick to using it.

You have to actually be in the pertinent forum to search in it. But if that is still not working for you, then just pick a forum you think is appropriate to your topic and ask away!! The same questions get asked (and answered) over and over so one more is not any big deal :-) You will still get answers.

PoohBearLvr - I have one suggestion for you. Bring your Aeonium Kiwi indoors for the summer.

We have too much humidity during their dormant period. I have watched several Aeoniums - with a Kiwi being my first - slowly decay away. Roots still looked alright, but the plant couldn't take the heat and humidity. Kind of like me!

I bring mine indoors when the temp is consistently 85+, usually by mid June. They sit in front of a south facing window and I did not withhold water when they are indoors because they dried out too much from the AC. So I watered every 2-3 weeks, judging for myself if they needed a drink.

Someone on this forum suggested I try treating my plants like above. So far it has worked well. And I'm ready to get another Kiwi!

Dormant in spring/summer?? It is a succulent isnt it? The heart of Fla. is perfect for it...isnt it? I need to read this comment you read about growing this one, in these replies.

Yes, dormant from April to September, that's right. While many succulents are opportunists, this one is too, but not to the degree that others are. Aeoniums come from primarily the Canary Islands, where the rainfall is in winter (roughly October-March), hence they do their growing then. Exposing them to a Florida summer with its rains will kill them - it's in their DNA.
