Front Yard Makeover

I bought a home last summer with front flower beds that were filled with similax and had half dead dwarf yaupon hollies and snow white indian hawthornes. There's also a badly pruned magnolia tree on each side of the house. I have been researching plants and landscape design so I could redo the front but now spring is here and I still don't have a solid plan. A southern gardening facebook page pointed me to Houzz for help.

I'm in zone 9 on the gulf coast and my front bed stays in shade until lunch time then bakes all afternoon. I bought some sky pencil holly, a sweet olive, a couple encore azalea: autumn angel (not sure how they'll handle the morning shade and harsh afternoons), and bridal spirea. Next on my list is picking up some low to the ground evergreen shrubs. I'd also like to add a deciduous tree at some point to the front yard to shade the windows from the harsh summer sun. Any advice or suggestions on plant placement or other plants to consider?
