No to putting a tv over a sofa.

Not a stylish idea to do so. I think you have space to pull the furniture a bit into the area behind the barstools. Switch the art and TV walls and put either the white chairs or the sofa on the end where you now have the TV. It is just a matter of adjusting the "U" in which you have the seating arranged. To save space, arrange all the seats to be 18" or less from the coffee table so you can eliminate other tables and the garden stool. TV is too high on that cabinet, maybe a lower credenza would be better there.

Unusual, but no one on the sofa can watch it in its present location anyway. When you have company set the TV to a scenic picture and make no apologies.

Have you considered changing seating in addition to swapping the tv with the painting?

I agree with Jora. I like the idea of moving the tv on the wall you want but then maybe moving the couch where the cream chair is and put the cream chair across from the couch. I am not sure I’d want to sit under a tv on the wall. I would be afraid of it falling!

Agree to move TV and credenza to where you want it. Then move sofa to where the 2 chairs are....2 chairs go to where TV is now and you may want to loose the one chair or push them together like a love seat to open up the patio door wall a bit more.

The room has to function for the way you live, otherwise, it is nothing but a stage set. Position the tv for how you use the room.

It is absolutely okay to hang the tv over the sofa.

However, I do feel there is too much furniture in the space. Can you tell us about what your favorite pieces are? Do you love sitting in the wing chairs.?What pieces would you be willing to move out?

Move the tv and unit below it, to where painting is. Remove the 'extra' white pieces that are not the sofa to your exercise area. Relocate painting to where the tv was. BTW lovely home.

Not every seat in a room needs to have a perfect view of a TV. I think it'll look fine over the sofa.

First inclination is no.

We are changing the sound system of the TV so we will not need the credenza space for speakers and equipment. Would it look better to get rid of the credenza? I could put one of the white corner chairs where the credenza was.

I would:

- swap the tv with the picture

- move the credenza underneath the tv

- move the white couch, against the wall, to where the two recliners currently are

- move the two recliners; one to where the 'half' wall is, and the other next to it - with it's back to where the opening next to the half wall is.

Yes, you can eliminate the tv console. So, that is one item gone. However, there is still too much furniture. I looked in your ideabooks and am not sure in what directions your style if going. Your dining room photos look like a modern farmhouse and bedroom sort of transitional.

The large wing chairs aren't working with the very modern furniture. In an ideal world, I'd

1) Place the tv where the art it

2) Place sofa facing tv (where the wing chairs are now

3) Eliminate the wing chairs

4) Put the 2 white chairs on either side of the tv, with a low console table in between them.

I realize that. in reality this might not work for you, but design-wise, this is what I'd do.

Agree, the wing chairs are the elephants in the room. Move them out and put the 2 half chairs in their place with table in middle. Switch tv/console with art. The console goes with the room when the wing chairs are removed.

I think a tv over a sofa would just look stupid. Sorry. Anytime some sits on it they would either block the screen or people watching tv would be looking over them. I do think moving the tv along with the console or a different one is the solution. I also believe that the most comfortable seating should be facing it.

Thanks for your comments. They have been very helpful. We need to keep at least one of the wing chairs because due to a recent health situation my husband can only get out of that type of chair. I decided not to put the TV above the sofa. After much measuring, I am now thinking of moving the TV AND THE CREDENZA to where the sofa and art are located.
Then moving the 2 white corner chairs to the patio door wall and the sofa where the white chairs were but pushed back somewhat into the open space behind the barstools. The wing chair and a table will stay in best TV viewing spot across from new TV location. Should the octagonal glass coffee table be centered on the rug or placed in front of the sofa?

I think that is a better plan. Still too much furniture, but better than the current plan. Would you consider moving the sofa to the patio door side and moving the white chairs to another room?

If it is in the budget, I recommend buying chairs for your husband that are more modern looking.

The coffee table should be centered between the dark recliners and the tv.

If you keep a table between the leather chairs, then place the coffee table 18" or less from the sofa so those sitting there can reach it.
