Be sure you like the scale of the tiles you''re using. It looks like there wouldn't be more than 3 full pattern of the design on the 6 ft side.

Thanks but the herringbone would run pointing into the house, so see more of it because more would be visible across the wider side? Sorry may be confusing.

That is an unsuitable size tile and hallway both for herringbone. The tile is too large, and the hallway is too small.

How big should the foyer be to work with 12x24 laid in a herringbone pattern? thanks

Its too "fat". you need to go with a narrower tile. You won't even get three rows of total uncut tile based on your dimensions.

This isn't a herringbone but you get the idea of that scale in a smaller space. Maybe you like this layout better or just a brick layout as the herringbone needs a bit of room to visually work. Also, just FYI - the herringbone pattern and the one shown herein result in a lot more waste than a standard brick pattern. I don't have a photo of the exact tile you are considering.

Thanks so much everyone! You all are so helpful! Just thought the herringbone pointing in the house would be good, and this tile only comes in 4x12 and 12x24 and I thought 4x12 would be too small and busy. Agree? As an alternative, could use the following tile:
