Personally, I'd go with the square option -- the hexagonal would drive me batty.

How about a patterned marble in an octagonal shape with the marble coordinating with the counter top......a bit more interesting but still subtle.

Have you considered a large scale subway tile? We're looking at 4" x 16". But of your two options, I'd go square, and the other is way too busy for my tastes.

I'd chose the hexagonal - a little more unique.

i like both, but i would not offset the squares. i would have to see how much b/s u have to pick the hex. too much and itwould be visual overload for me.

post more pics of your kitchen and u will get more 'solid' answers.

There's something appealing about the hexagonal tile but there's also something a little dated about it. So, my vote is for the rectangular tile. Good luck!
