Please help! End table too small?

Please help me decide if this end table is too small for my living room. In person, it looks smaller. I think I’ll have to return it. If anyone knows a similar round table but larger, please let me know. This one has dimensions of 16.5’ height and 13.75’ diameter.

It is pretty, but ideally, it should be within 2 inches of the sofa arm so it's easily accessible. How about scooting it next to the chair? Anyone sitting at that end of the couch can use the coffee table.

This pic is from Ballard designs. They recommend a garden seat next to an armless chair.

Thanks Lil! I placed it next to the chair. How does it look now? Do you think a larger one would look better though? I feel like the space feels too empty and if the table was bigger, you can could reach it from the sofa too. However, I agree with the fact that people on the sofa can use the coffee table.

I think you’re fine using it as a table for the armless chair. Size seems suitable. Most people use the coffee table when seated on a couch, anyhow, so you’ve got what you need for that already. I wouldn’t overcrowd this lovely space. If you want to add more interest, I’d suggest some artwork for the empty wall behind the couch.

You might try moving the lamp closer to the couch; it looks a little odd behind the chair. I agree, that table is too small and not high enough. I hope you can introduce some colorful art into this space that seems all too gray. You need some life and light, as seen in the picture that Lil S shows. You always need warm colors to balance the cool ones for a really livable space.

It looks like a trash can.

I think it looks fine next to the chair.

Thank you, everyone! Lol Shari, that’s exactly what my sister said. It looks like a fancy trash can!

Anyway, I will return it. Does anyone know what kind of table (size and shape and color) will look good. Everything now seems all grey and white because it’s a new sofa and I will replace the throw pillows that came with it with new colorful ones. I love color schemes and to add pops of color here and there. The teal/blue chair is there because the color scheme is going to be teal and some other warm color like coral/yellow/pink. I really prefer pink or coral though. I seriously need your tips on finding affordable throw pillows in teal and coral/pink. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

I really love the color combo in these pics! Where can I find colorful pillows like these?

Can you move chair to square up with coffee table. Then you could put small stool table to left oh armless chair. Then move floor lamp to end of sofa. Live the color of your pieces!

In fact, might want to slide whole arrangement away from corner a bit and slightly away from the wall. You might not need an end table. Possibly a “C” table for end of sofa.

Flo, wouldn’t it look weird though? Here’s some pics of the whole living room. The chair is faced this way so that it’s easier to have a conversation. And I have tried placing the lamp beside the sofa. It looks put of place and the place beside and behind the chair looks so empty. I also have two ottoman at bay window. Also, I have no clue how to place artwork on the wall. Should be placed above the sofa, that’s what I know. But the area above chair looks too empty since the wall is huge.

I think you need end tables with lamps on either side of the sofa.

Flo, moving the arrangement as in moving sofa as well? I’ve considered it before but as you can see in new pics, it would come farther out in the hallway and block passage and I just wanted to keep it parallel to the kitchen counter.

The fundamental problem is a large sectional is not best choice for this room. However, while it would be unconventional, I would try turning sectional so long section is on long wall. Put chair across from long side and one ottoman across from short side. Place other ottoman in niche but toward one end. Floor lamp could go in niche or on other end of sofa. Large art over long sofa hung 6-7” above back of sofa. Probably need something 60” wide x 30” high. If you post room measurements, i can do a scale layout for you.

As i now see more photos (Houzz photo posting is a mess, sorry). You could slide one ottoman under that window so it isn’t in the niche. Or return one ottoman if possible. Your basic problem is the sectional is too big for this space and the two ottomans don’t work. Is the furniture new? Can you start over so you get pieces more scaled to this space? Or have you downsized and are trying to make all this work? It would help to know what your situation is. Thanks.

Try Homegoods for pillows. I don’t know if my Homegoods is a large one, but it has several large shelving units of pillows - one area for each color. I was just there the other day and saw tons of colorful pillows for spring. I also saw some pretty end tables there. Also, Pier 1 has lots of nice looking end tables.

I second Flo's layout with the long side of the sectional along the long wall.

Flo, I have previously arranged it like you said which is why I bought the sectional with this arrangement. However, I wanted to use up the bay window since my toddler loves to look outside (hence the ottoman for seating). The current arrangement provides more open space and connects the bay window. The previous arrangement separated the bay window from the center focal point. Here are some pics of previous arrangement.
I’ve tried adding measurements as best as I could.
Also, wanted to add these pics so that you can see what it looks like if I sit on one of the ottoman at bay window.

The living room leads to the kitchen, dining room, and playroom for my kid.
I think the original layout works better. Instead of turning the section, can you remove the corner piece and the single seat to make a 4 seat sofa? Keep that places against the wall and then you can get another chair to put in the bay window. Your selections are really nice so far!

Sectionals are limiting. A sofa and chairs would give you seating and the flexibility to highlight the nook. I like how you had it in your last photos, though I'd try bringing the sectional away from the wall and use a console table behind it. I think that your desire to leave the nook open looks awkward with the sectional, given the width of the long wall (why you're having trouble placing the chair and figuring out how to hang art) and the bar overhang.

You mentioned a center focal point. Can you post a photo of that?

Are you definitely keeping the sectional? I will work on this but the scale and amount of furniture is still too large for the space. I will do the best i can. I have a couple ideas. Bbl

Btw, the previous arrangement is sooo much better. Plus the size of coffee table is best lengthwise in front of long side of sofa.
Yes, I will keep the sectional since we bought in January and nothing can be done now. I believe the arrangement does looks better the original way. Just wanted to open up the space by arranging it this way because the bay window wasn’t being used to its full potential. At the time of purchase, I had no idea about interior designing actually. But as I started decorating, browsing the internet and getting advice from houzz, I realized I shouldn’t have bought this sectional in the first place. I saw this pic and really wanted to recreate this under a budget. I want to add curtains over the windows as well. How would that look? Anyway, I’ll probably change the arrangement when I do add wall art. Btw, the sectional can’t be shortened because the single chair can’t be used as itself. The sides of the chair doesn’t have the patterned fabric that’s on top.

Just would like to know if anything can be done if I want to keep this current arrangement. Like maybe adding a big plant or display cabinet in the corner where the blue chair is and move the chair somewhere else? Wall art above the sofa and a display cabinet could balance out the height and space of the wall, right? Idk if I make sense really ♀️.

I really appreciate all your advice! Thank you!

Check out Etsy for pillows. Almost limitless selection of colors and designs. Look for ones with zippers so you can remove and wash the cover.

Not sure if I was clear - I wasn’t suggesting that you use the single piece of the sofa that I suggested removing. I was suggesting that you create a regular, 4 cushion sofa from the pieces of the sectional and not use the corner or the single seat. This way you have have more flexibility in incorporating the bay window area.

Val, the corner seat is attached to the smaller side of sofa (it’s one piece). The single one is the only one that can be removed.

Ahhh, got it. I couldn’t see that part behind the coffee table.

OK, I understand. You have "bought it" so to speak. So, now let's do the best we can to utilize it well. I see your "vision" picture, but sometimes the "vision" simply isn't possible with the pieces we have, so might have to "let that go" and get a NEW vision. I am going to do a scale drawing, but kind of at the end of my day right now. Will see what I can do tomorrow.

Ok. This is a bit out of the box and some measurements are not clear but this could work and could accommodate a TV if desired.

The piece i put on long wall could accommodate one ottoman underneath an art or TV above the table/console. I would also add a more substantial floor lamp or possibly an arc lamp.

    A few lamps.
Thank you Flo for your suggestions! I’ll look into those lamps. I’ve thought of arranging the sofa like this before! But I wasn’t sure if would have been an inconvenience for people to go around the sofa to sit. As you can see in the pic here, people from downstairs come upstairs and their first view would be of the back of sofa and go the whole length of the hallway and enter through the bay window.

The positives of this layout is that if you put a TV or large beautiful art on the far wall, that would be the first thing seen. Then you also have space to put a couple stools at the bar counter. So it depends on how much you use this room and how people sit in here. I thought there was a front door on this floor?? At any rate, you have what you have so you now have the 3 basic ways you can handle this sectional and it is up to you how you want to use it. However, this is my favorite layout. I realize it would be a little walk to enter the space possibly, but once in the space you would have access to the bench and seating and you could even put both ottomans at the window and seat a large number of people. So, just depends on how you want to use the room. The focal point in the room is the long wall. So, keep the focus on that wall no matter how you arrange the furniture.

You’re right Flo. I am not planning to keep a TV in the living room but I can place a table/cabinet in the future. Thank you! I appreciate your precious time spent on this!

I was looking through the lamps that you suggested and was wondering what color light should be used for the living room. For instance, white light, soft white, or warm light. I feel like the blue accent chair doesn’t show its true color with warm lights at night. Also, what color lightning is best for kitchen pendants, spotlights on kitchen ceiling and under cabinet lights?

As to lighting, the key thing is to use all the same lumens if you use LEDs a dimmable if possible. If you use dimmer switches, and you want LED bulbs, they must be “dimmable” or they will blink. 2700 lumens to 3,000 is a good daylight level to try.
So with no TV means you can hang some beautiful, large art over a pretty console table. It will be beautiful and real “wow” factor. Check out art on Etsy.com.

Hello to anyone out there. I have decided to try out Flo’s suggestion and see how it looks. Thanks Flo! I will buy a tv this year and next year I’m planning to have this beautiful entertainment center set up on that big wall. I think that can be the focal point. What do you guys think?
