Love the room, and your sofas. I agree that the sofas look great opposite each other. I would remove the chair and square table to another area in your home, and go with an oval coffee table. Leaving that end space open would be much more inviting to me.

Beautiful space and sofas! I like the sofas across from each other. You can keep the chair on the end, but remove that end table. I would look for an oval glass coffee table. I like the space behind the sofas. It allows you to walk up to the windows. Add a floor lamp to the corner of the wall near the stairs.

I like the sofas parallel. I don't think "they're too far away from the windows" is a problem. That just means you can easily access the blinds and bookshelves.

I'd just use the sofas and no chairs. The rug is too long for that so try the sofas opposite each other with the rug parallel to the fireplace wall, as in your last photo. A long coffee table in between. I think the seating area can be kept within the area behind the start of the stairs, for a cozy effect.

I agree that roman shades or woven blinds would be better than curtains.

The bookshelves need books. Photos, artwork, pottery are nicely highlighted when used sparingly on the shelves.

Agree with trying the rug turned the other way. I like the first arrangement, but the chair needs a smaller round table next to it. That is one pretty room!!
