Going with a corner sink?

last modified: 7 years ago

Hello all. I am wanting to put in a corner sink in a kitchen remodel. I haven't decided on much yet, just trying to get some input, to do-s, and not to do-s.

I have seen a few 42" corner sink bases that say they will accomodate a standard 33" sink. Does that give you enough room to work? I have not found any 48" corner sink bases just quickly searching, but I would think that would give me a little room to breathe.

I did see a couple pictures with a diswasher directly beside the sink base. Surely that would be a bad idea?? I would think you would trip over the door. Would an 18" cabinet between the corner and dishwasher be sufficient?

Any other things to think about?

Don’t do a corner sink. . Your KD will show you how to properly design one with parts rather than a cabinet if it’s the last resort. But they are terrible to inflict on a kitchen and should be avoided.

Unless your floor plan really is tight, I'd avoid a corner sink. Post your current kitchen here, and folks will help you create your best kitchen within the limits you mention.

We have a corner sink now and will not be putting one in our new kitchen. I can’t think of any pros but many cons. Only one person can be there at a time and yes the dishwasher will be in the way. It eats up valuable storage space too.

Anybody have any input on a nice layout for this space?

I've just started playing around with it. The open side is to a dining area. I have thought about an island in the middle, but didn't really want the sink or dishwasher in the island. Other than that I am open to ideas. The sink and dishwasher need swapped? It is too far away? I'm not good at design... obviously.

I'm not a fan of corner/angle sinks but have done a few in my career.

    • DW right beside is not a great idea. If placing one beside is the only option, allow for fillers on either side of the corner cabinet. This will allow for the doors to hinge for accessing the sink cabinet, especially with something like a DW directly beside. If you set back your cabinet like in your example, the doors will only open 90 degrees maybe, unless you again plan fillers.
    • Keep in mind that most sinks are set back from the front edge of the countertop about 3" +/-. You need to plan a cabinet that will house the sink so that you keep this set back. Any greater & you'll have nothing but back pain from leaning all the time. take your sink template to your KD and plan out the best cabinet width to use. Don't take it for granted that "it will fit"!
    • Also, any corner set up, whether sink, fridge, wall oven or range, will occupy a greater space than if set straight. If you would normally use up 36" for a sink, it will occupy around 50" both ways along the wall on the angle.
