I have no idea what that means. I do not see the point in an island for the sake of having an island you wiil be much better off with a U shaped kitchen Hope the pantry is pullout pantries . That is a very long walk from fridge to sink

Your kitchen is not large enough for an island. On a one butt kitchen you need a minimum of 42" between island and perimeter and if you have more than 1 person working in the kitchen, you ideally need 48".

Additionally having the stove right in the pathway between rooms can be dangerous.

Also doesn't look like enough landing space on either side of cooktop.

Plus having an oven under the cooktop is not good because it's actually lower than a regular oven so the handle practically brushes the ground. Means lots of bending down just to see inside. (Ask me how I know.)

Is this a new build or a renovation?

8' is not a long distance to walk. I had that in my condo and it was fine. However there are other issues with this kitchen.

Stove should be closer to the sink.

Move fridge where stove is in your design, it's now in a quite narrow walkway.

The island looks off, either create a U or simply remove it.

Could you please post a wider view of the floorplan?

And what has been demo/built so far?

    Thanks, rinq

I don't want the range in the peninsula, on an island, or facing the keeping room

That walkway will be 48" wide in build

It is an empty shell, the frig/range wall is load bearing; we are putting in a beam

to open between kit & DR

I will try to add a bigger floor plan

Sorry can't enlarge on my pc..

I 'd like to see the room on the right and the one on the left of the kitchen.

For such a nice sized house, that kitchen is rather small. Do you need the sitting room or would you consider having part of the kitchen encroach on it.

Your stove where it is is not safe. 48" is the bare minimum to walk by and that's if it were protected. Are there any children in the family?

You are spending all this money to open up the house yet you're keeping a kitchen that is not the best for the space.

You might consider using a narrow 12-18" movable island instead, centered in the kitchen so you can use it across from your stove.

So what you're telling us is you're happy with the plan you came up with and all you want us to do is confirm your feelings. Why do I say that? Several of us gave reasons why your kitchen is not the best it can be but all you did was give your reasons why you disagree.

"I just have the one wall for range, frig, pantry

I have 9' btwn frig and sink, now

I think the island is a benefit for the separation btwn keeping room

    and kitchen

The DW and peninsula need to be where they have clear sight-lines"

    And:

    "Thanks, rinq

I don't want the range in the peninsula, on an island, or facing the keeping room

That walkway will be 48" wide in build

It is an empty shell, the frig/range wall is load bearing; we are putting in a beam

to open between kit & DR"

    And:

" I am used to an unconventional kitchenAll our subs thought it was the strangest kit
    and it turned out great"

You also said: "But I am open to suggestions", but your comments show you really are not and are just want us to make you feel good with the plan you came up with.

Move island over so it is closer to the fridge so you have a nice landing place for items. 2'? Maybe elongate island and place some seating at the far end. Can't tell what that other space is adjoining kitchen. Consider moving the range to the wall left of sink. More room for people, kids and pets to pass by while you are cooking.

If the OP elongates the island or keeps it, then her aisle widths are not wide enough.

You have to delete the thread within an hour. There is a weird comment above (although I wouldn't mind having some scones on my counter right now), but everyone else is trying to make sure you understand that you could have a more efficient layout. I have narrow aisles in my kitchen, with a 36" x 60" island/work table, so your aisles don't bother me too much.

I think the range should be on the exterior wall, between windows, since that is the most protected area, and the sink and DW can then go on the (longer) peninsula. I flipped the pantries to the other end of the dividing wall, and made them shallower reach-in (15"-18"?) to leave space for the longer peninsula. The other side of the fridge is MW/coffee/snack space, with the MW in an upper cabinet.

If the kitchen is 13' deep, you have space for an 8' peninsula (24" elbow room per seat), a 41" walkway, and 18" deep pantry. Or, 44" walkway, and 15" deep pantry. Dishes can be kept in a hutch-type cabinet with glass doors, beside the fridge, convenient to the DW and dining room, with cutlery in a drawer in the island.

It seems oddly unbalanced. The stove is in a claustrophobic little nook but the kitchen is otherwise rather open. The island is rather too small to be helpful. The fridge is far from the sink. I don’t know the answer but I know more can be done.

I tried to delete this whole thread because all of the comments were so stupid--but it would'nt let me

No they were not stupid. They were trying to help you but you didn't want to hear it.

BTW: Mama's plan is so much better. You should consider it.

grdnbeth, from looking at your plan of your new kitchen and by the layout of existing where exactly would this window be installed to see the creek? Your existing kitchen....where the stove is, is that the keeper room? If you can can you post all four sides of kitchen?

"what do you think of this layout"

[puts fingers in ears and stops listening]

It's your party, milady. It's ok if we're not invited, but please then don't send invitations either.

    Wish you well.
