I've been shopping for bedroom furniture recently for my master bedroom. Difficult to find affordable good quality wood pieces in stores. I've looked online and the reviews are too mixed for me to take a risk. For a guest room, I'd allocate my funds to comfortable bedding, good lighting, paint and decor before actual furniture (providing existing pieces are solid). But that's me. I think you could change the look of these pieces with paint and hardware. You could get different nightstands as well.

ETA: If you want new furniture, check Wayfair and Overstock. This panel bed has nice clean lines and is solid and manufactured wood from Indonesia. Weight capacity is 500 pounds (usually that includes the mattress) - a detail to check before buying.

Oh my gosh..tell me about it. I can’t believe how cheaply furniture is made these days! Thanks for the reply, however, the paint, art, bed spread, etc are staying. I’m only looking for a bedroom furniture set.

Which is why I prefer to buy old and used. It's quality! The stuff nowadays is really just "throwaway" stuff like all the coffee makers and appliances out there.

So you want a set and not a jumble of pieces? I'm not sure where you can find that for a reasonable price unless you do go to thrift shops and consignment shops.

Also, it’s hard for me to go to second hand shops because my place is contemporary and most of the stuff there is traditional. My fear with Wayfair is I don’t want to have to completely assemble a dresser and nightstands from scratch.

Most of the dressers and nightstands I saw on Wayfair were assembled. I think it just the legs that needed to be added. Beds usually require assembly. Mixing wood tones is not obvious. I understand your reticence. Have you considered black? Or do you find that too dark? I often see a wood tone for the dresser, painted or metal nightstands and an upholstered bed.
