Slide In Electric Range Suggestions

I am researching slide in electric ranges for our kitchen remodel and have a budget of around $1200. At this price point, any recommendations? We have looked at GE, Samsung (I am worried about the reviews I have read on how easy it is to accidentally brush the knobs and turn on the burners), LG and Whirlpool. What brand would you go with?

I agree with Green. Frigidaire induction is the way to go. Budget $200 extra for induction cookware fro Amazon. You’ll still be within your stated budget.

Bosch is a recommended slide-in induction range. Here's the 800 series. Out of your current budget but I would not choose radiant.

I would also choose the Frigidaire induction, even though it's not a slide in. Check your pans with a magnet, and if it sticks, you can save the money and keep your current pans. You can also check on Craigslist, etc., as I sometimes see induction ranges there.

Thank you all for the recommendation. I curious why induction is better? We currently have radiant and have not had any issues with it. We do need to go with a slide in as it will be on our island.

Induction heats the pan, not the cooktop. It is as fast as gas, and as adjustable as gas. You never burn food on induction. It needs less venting. You need induction, especially if you are going to be putting this range on an island.

Nothing gets stuck on the cooktop, since the cooktop stays cool, aside from the heat it receives from the bottom of the pan. And there is no lag between when you turn the heat up or down and the response of the burner. It is a much better choice than radiant heat.

I'm about as frugal as an American consumer can be, and I think the (I agree inflated) cost of a slide-in range model is worth it for not having to reach over the burners. Plus it IS a sleeker look.

Post your exact layout. What’s your ventilation plan? Downdrafts are very expensive, virtually useless, and only a very select few can even work with a range. Then they require 18” of space behind the range for all of the equipment.

There likely is a plan that can save you thousands of dollars here by putting the range in the perimeter.

"SuseyB: You never burn food on induction."

That should be clarified to say spills/spatters don't burn-on to the surface of an induction cooktop, since the surface itself doesn't heat directly.

Food can surely be burned IN the cooking utensil, which typically happens more often to a new user who is unaccustomed to the quick heating speed of induction and tends to set the power level too high.

The GE JS645SLSS slide-in electric range has excellent consumer reviews on both appliancesconnection.com and Home Depot. But you can get the Frigidaire FGIF3036TF induction range for about the same price ($1K) or the Frigidaire FFIF3054TS for even less.

Link to the Frigidaire slide in induction. I have the GE free standing, and should have purchased this. They were about the same $.

I would never do electric. It would be my third choice. Induction would be my first.

    1. The house and the cooktop do not heat up. So even in summer you stay cooler.

    2. The cooktop never gets hot. It gets warm so NOTHING can bake onto it. No needing special glass top cleaners or razor blades to clean up spill overs.

The only thing I need to clean up my induction cooktop is a paper towel and some windex! Seriously.

    3. If even cleaning up with Windex is too much work, I can put paper towels, plain newsprint or a silicone mat under the pot and around the area so I don't have to deal with spatters and no, the paper will not catch fire.

    4. Want to make rice without having to switch burners because first you have to boil rice and then let it simmer? On induction, you just turn it down from boil to a low simmer heat and it's immediate. I mean the second you turn it down, is the second it goes from hot to simmer.

    5. Hate waiting for water to boil? A quart of water boils in 90 seconds. A full pot probably takes another 30 seconds.

    6. If you have children or the elderly it's much safer because once again the surface doesn't heat up.

You all have officially changed our minds and convinced us to go the induction route. Excellent reasons why induction is superior to radiant, Thanks for all the comments!

This LG LSE4616ST is about the least-expensive slide-in induction range you're going to find.

I have the dual oven Samsung electric range. I am very pleased with it and have not had a problem with the burners turning on accidentally.
