my MA is unusally leggy, i think because it is in a shady spot behind a Japanese maple.

I agreee with everyone.. this is going to be gorgeous! I know you’ll update us . I have my eye on that trellis too . I’m so mad at myself for not getting it when zulily had a special on them . I keep waiting but it’s been since last fall since I have seen it .

is your Madame Anisette own root?

Yes, it is own root from Chamblees 2015. Last year a got quite a few blooms as she put out so many new basals. I think this year will be even more from all the new laterals that are starting to sprout. In the first two years I got only blind growth.

Here is 4th year Wollerton Old Hall which I pillared last year on a 7 ft obelisk.

And 2nd year Florentina on a 5 ft obelisk.

Florentina is very vigorous as others have noted. It has not bloomed for me yet but I think this part of my patio is too shady. Only gets late afternoon sun in the summer. Amazingly one of the first to leaf out in the eaely spring despite no direct sun. I may have to move it to the front yard which gets south east sun.

Dingo, thanks so much. I wish I had known about this company before I bought so many obelisks from Plow and Hearth. It seems bestnest offer obelisks that are all one piece which I think will last longer than mine that are screwed together and are already rusting in some areas.

Most of the climbers get so large here they would eat obelisks for breakfast. I would probably have to train a medium non-climber to fit on one. Even the tall non-climbers can think they are climbers here no matter how much I cut them back.

Totoro mine had to be assembled too, but I bought them a couple of years ago.

Florentina. Laterals are growing. I will be amazed if it actually sets buds due to how shady this area is. She is probably wondering how much longer I will torture her with this shade experiment.

Here is MA with 2 blooms of Desdemona in middle ground (pot) and Perdita in bottom Right foreground.

It looks very good. I have a rose friend nearby who pillared Yolande d'Aragon on an obelisk and it was covered in blooms...did very well trained that way.

I had the first bloom on my Rooguchi clematis recently and it may be my favorite clem. Such a beautiful shape and color.

Hmmm, thanks for the suggestion Erasmus. I just planted Yolande in the ground, so there it still time! I think she would look pretty in the corner where I placed her trained on a trellis or pillar.

Erasmus, i think Rooguchi is one of my fave clems too. It looks like fairy bells and it is such a vigorous grower.

She is pulling the obelisk out of the soil. She is very vigorous. This is a situation where I wish her blooms nodded, but at least I see wee face better from my second floor windows.
