Ditto here.

I'm a fan of taller baseboards, but not sure how tall I can go. Have you decided yet?

The higher the ceiling the bigger the baseboard. But then I think craftsman style houses have larger baseboards too, a little cute cottage could have baseboards with more detail. But will there be crown molding too? Too much molding at the top and bottom might shorten the wall. So basically, no, there aren’t any rules, depends on the house and what you like.

What is the style of your house? What are the door and window casings? How tall are your ceilings? Are you planning any wainscoting? All of these things will influence your choice.

And remember dusting...my house has a 6" flat board with a decorative trim molding on top. (It's a traditional house) The decorative trim has two areas on it where dust accumulates daily. They are impossible to keep clean...

I have 8’ regular ceilings. The house is about 25 yrs old nothing fancy about it. We are looking at doing baseboards and door frames. We won’t do crown moulding I don’t think the ceiling is high enough.

I’m trying to update and modernize.

We were looking at 5” fairly simple baseboards.
