Help with u-kitchen cabinet layout

I'm laying out our cabinet design for our kitchen remodel. We are going with Barker RTA cabinets which are customizable to 1/4". Our contractor has measured everything (and works) in 1/16". I'm having a really difficult time figuring out what is acceptable for the cabinet run in the 'u'.

Lower cabinets:

Right now I have blind cabinets on either side of the run that include a built-in 3" filler. Why did I do blind cabinets? Because we want larger drawers next to the range and I figure we can use a rev-a-shelf blind cabinet organizer if we want more accessibility.

But what do I do about adding filler in the 'u' run? I can get the cabinets to within 1/16" of an inch of the wall measurement. But that seems risky for the contractor to install. Should I undersize the blind cabinets a bit so there is some wiggle room?

Upper cabinets:

Right now I have 45' door cabinets in the corners. Should I add filler in-between these cabinets and the wall? I mean that seems like the obvious answer but I was more concerned with hanging the larger corner cabinets only against one wall. I guess you could use furring strips to fill the gap.

Please ignore the light placement, and the other house dimensions, they are just place-holders.

Any other suggestions?

Hi mccartyn-

I do love a u-shaped kitchen, it gives you room to move around!

Do those boxes represent 12 inches in each dimension?

If so, I am wondering about the amount of counter space you have given yourself on the sides of the refrigerator and the sink. It doesn't look like much.

The sides of the refrigerator is where you will unload your grocery bags with food to be put away. The sides of the sink is where you will be doing your food prep.

It would be nice to have 36".

Although you show 42" to the left of the sink, you are not going to be able to work in most of the left of that space. You can of course, work to the right of the stove, but that is further from the sink.

Just to throw the idea out, have you thought about moving the refrigerator further away from the sink (to give you more counter space between the two) and having a small peninsula extending out perpendicularly from the "U" near where the refrigerator would be to allow a landing pad for unloading groceries?

The peninsula could be at what ever height you like, and not be so long as to obstruct views of the great room or whatever you have past the kitchen.

You could also have one stool there for yourself to sit down while waiting for a pot to boil, or to have a cup of coffee.

I think that shape might be called a "G" shaped kitchen?

@loobab - That is a dishwasher next to the sink so there is 24" there. That's really the only spot for the dishwasher. Not the greatest for fridge efficiency but it's all that we have to work with.

I guess I am more concerned about the details in the cabinet layout and measurments at this point. The actual placement and layout of the appliances is set in stone.

I know you say that the layout is set in stone, but you could easily place the fridge at the end of the run, which is preferable. Just switch it with the cabinet to its right.

Are the 45” uppers blinder as well? I see you have 42” base blinders always look for cabinets that have at least 2” leigh way for draws to open

You can get the 90-degree corner cabinet (called Easy Reach usually) for just a little more - so very worth it. I had 2 angled corner cabinets in my old kitchen, and despised them. The easy-reach I have now are worlds better.

Ok well i could switch to blind cabinets on the upper or 90 degree cabinets.

But my initial question of where to place fillers in the cabinet run between two walls still stands.

There’s nothing wrong with where you have the fillers placed on your plan just as as they’re able to fill the gaps
