Actually lots of times people ARE nice and will offer cuttings. It's minimally appropriate to pay shipping, if you're not engaging in a trade. Esp as shipping has gotten so much more expensive than it used to be.

Let me know if you’re still looking and what you’re willing to trade. I have Pilea and my M-I-L had thanksgiving and Christmas cactus I got cuttings from. I have tons of other things too.

Another source of plants and an excellent opportunity to give away excess plants/cuttings/trimming - plant swaps.

In my area, we have a plant swap once a year. There's an online forum where people can pre-trade. A lot of people don't bother with the pre-trade. They just show up with whatever they want to give away and pick up whatever is available. That's where I now bring overgrowth from my plants. It's much more convenient than posting on Nextdoor and scheduling a date and waiting for people to pick them up.
