kitchen remodel - flooring

I am remodeling a kitchen including removing a pass thru and column leading into the family room. The family room has hardwood (brazilian cherry color) and the kitchen currently has tile.

The new kitchen will be white/light cabinets.

Since I am opening up the kitchen to the family room do I need to use the same flooring? I don't really want to spend the money to replace the family room wood, and I'm not positive I can completely match the color to bring it in to the kitchen.

2 Questions:

1. can you take the wood floor out of the family room and move it to a different room ie; reuse it?

2. Will it look bad to use a white wash wood look tile in the kitchen next to the wood floor in the family room?

Here is a picture of the current kitchen with the pass thru and column that will be eliminated. The base cabinetry will not be there any longer so it will just be a large opening.
