Door #2 looks the same as in your inspiration photo, but door #1 is definitely an interruption to what your inspiration photo is like. I don't see the layout as being a problem, though. You will just have fewer cabinets on one side than in the inspiration photo.

the inspiration photo may be applied to what you wish as far as finishes,colors/etc .But the squared island with ample aisles behind stools on 3 sides is nowhere near what your Island will achieve, from a practical standpoint as well aesthetics. If you are invested in an "island " kitchen, and yet need the doorways...... place fridge and range on back wall, move sink to island and rotate the island , lengthen it, and have seating face out the windows. Eliminate the stuff on the side walls. With drawers in island you'll make up the storage.

thanks for the feedback. I see what you are saying her flavor, but I think having the appliances on the back wall would throw off the aesthetics more so than the rectangular oriented island.

Your layout is not functional as is. The island is acting as a barrier. Of course in your inspiration pic, it is too. Do you want functional or pretty? You can have both but it won't be exactly like your inspiration.

I see what you are saying and it makes a lot of sense. my preference was to have the island oriented in that manner, but in had also loved the symmetry of the upper cabinets next to the windows. I will definitely give it some thought

I understand loving the symetry of uppers on either side of the window. You should still have room for equal sized uppers on either side of the window. It may not look exactly how you picture it but I think you can still get those feature pieces to match with the black doors while having a more functional layout.

I however would keep the island the same as your original post. Turn your original fridge wall into a breakfast station, toaster, coffee maker, cereal etc there for easy access while someone else is in the kitchen making lunches.

That was my first thought that the inspiration pic is a much larger kitchen.Symmetry is IMO overrated function is the first item in a good design .What you need is an actual kitchen designer and not the cabinet sales person or your architect or contractor. If this in a new build can you post the actul floor plan of the whole main living space. When clients want certain things that I don’t advise I ask them to imagine preparing a simple meal . How mant steps to do that one meal. Islands can be a wonderful thing or just a big PITA for function. Get a proper designer to help with this but you need to think about how you cook ans inspirations are just that . Think about what you love from that picture and a good designer will try to help integrate those things into your space.

How high are your ceilings? That photo shows a kitchen that is more than 20’ wide, and the ceilings look to be 12’.

Dan1888, I'm curious about your comments about the functionality of 25" deep vs 28" deep. I get that for deep drawers but are deep cupboards that functional or do you just feel the added functionality from the deeper countertops.
I actually dislike cupboards because I feel like things get lost in deep cupboards. I am looking forward to having a pantry for food storage

Hi Patricia, the home is part reno and part new build. The project is constrained by some tight existing rooms. the existing house ends at the dotted line that runs through the great room. the pic of the ground floor is attached.

Oh and the ceilings are 10ft
