Orange tree leaves curling?

I have an orange tree that recently underwent a transplant due to root rot, and dropping almost all it’s leaves. It was bouncing back nicely, with lots of new shoots and big green leaves, but now the new leaves are growing curled (one fell off with a black tip), and new shoots aren’t growing. The new leaves look green and firm, aside from the curl. Online articles suggest this is due to overwatering, but the soil feels dry, and the moisture meter I bought also shows that the soil is dry. does anyone know what could be causing the leaf curl, and how I can avoid more damage to my tree? Thanks!

Could we see where the shoots are coming from? It looks like all the shoots are coming from the bottom and not on the main trunk.

Hi Denise,

Sure thing! Please see the attached photos. The lowest shoots are about 8 inches above the base, and the highest are about 12-15 inches above the base. Before the tree had root rot, it had foliage coming from both the main trunk, and the large branch that almost looks like a "second" trunk. Now, most of the healthy looking shoots appear to be on the "second" trunk, while only one is on the "main" trunk (and seems to have more curled leaves than the other shoots).

Looks like your tree is a graft, and the new growth is the root stock.

I am looking at all the branches with the thorns, especially the dead one. None of my 5 orange trees have thorns like that.

Cynthia, do you know by any chance which variety of orange you have? I was hoping it would be one that I have and then we can compare notes.
