Need ideas for colour of fabric to chose for the upholstery on these dinning chairs. Looks to change from traditional feel to more transitional

Are you keeping the big rug or changing it?

The current fabric seems to go with everything else in the room. If you want a more transitional feel, I think you'll have to change more than just the upholstery on the chairs.

That said, take a look at the chairs by Wild Chairy: https://www.houzz.com/projects/372087/chairs

The seat fabric looks like it is in excellent condition. For economic sense, perhaps one of these fabrics or something like them on the front and back would brighten things up.

Your new choices are fine but are they different enough from what you have now ? Think about brighter clearer colors for the chairs. Maybe a bold check for the backs and a great floral for the fronts. Look at everything you can to get ideas and see what you like,
