zone 7, Tennessee ground cover lawn substitute

ISO zone 7, Tennessee groundcovers to:
fill in patches of a large lawn (wild grass not turf).
looking for hardy varieties that are low profile and we can walk on (medium traffic from dogs and kids) that can be mowed, help control weeds, and ideally flower prettily. the yard gets full day sun. about 1/3 of an acre size of lawn. thanks in advance!
