You have an interesting looking house! My top 3 would be:

1. Remove the hedge, shrub and lattice and replace with flower beds with colour and window boxes with flowers for lower windows.

2. Build a cover for your small porch so that you break up the prominent horizontal roof line (this would mean cutting into your mansard roof)

3. Paint. I would paint the upper gabled windows a dark colour to blend more into the roof colour and paint the lower area something darker, perhaps a nice grey/blue? I like the black shutters and your front door is great too.

Okay, here's a fourth: Replace your lighting with something bigger and current. But keep it black.

Clean upthe dark streaks on the brick steps and a fresh coat of paint.

All of the above comments are good ideas. But paint your front door your favorite color, nice a bright and deep.

It’s a charmer. The porch lanterns are a bit small...an easy fix with new black fixtures. The shrubby tree could use a nice thinning and trim to show off its branch structure, and the front of the house could use some color: a big red clay pot with some colorful flowers on each side of the door would be nice. Blacken the railing if it needs paint. The house is very close to the street. If there is much traffic, consider replacing the windows with new windows made to reduce noise, but they should match the original windows style. It looks like it is in a charming New England village.

If you are selling your house I would power wash and remove the large bush that covers the window on the left. I would also remove the smaller bush on the left and replace with a small tree like a dogwood ( I’m not sure what planting zone you live in but just an idea). If you are buying the house I would redo the front hedge across the house, power wash, and add larger light fixtures like others have suggested.

I take out the shrubs and build a brick planter and hardscape to frame the steps and porch -- like what you might see in an early 1900s urban street; or fill in the narrow area with ground cover, perennials and a few small shrubs (holly maybe). No grass, it won't want to ever grow under that large tree.

New paint would help, but don't paint the gables to blend in with the roof! Pick a soft blue or green or even red, and use on the entire house. Keep the shutters and trims black, replace the lights with something a bit larger, and fix up the steps/railing.

Power wash the brick and curb. Trim overgrown shrub to a foot below window sills. Prune the big tree next to the for-sale sign.

One last suggestion would be to have a local carpenter make you white Chinese Chippedale style handrails

If the roof is wood shake, please leave it alone .

Believe it or not, shake roofs can be cleaned, stains/moss/mildew removed -- as long as the shakes aren't too old and are in solid condition.
