I love the Kobalt . I would go with the 80 volt model for your run time . Go on the web and check out all the manufacturers Ego , Simplicity , Husquarna etc . Then checkout the model of your choice at the area service agent prior to purchase .

I bought an EGO for my sister in law and liked it enough to get one for me. I got the self propelled, which I have never had but will never be without from now on.

EGO is a good mower but seems to be heavier than Ryobi 40v (self propelled). I am looking at Ryobi as it seems to be lighter and it is $328. I was thinking of using the electric mower for the slope and use a gas-self propelled for the lawn. Am I over thinking this? The slope is 600 sq feet and the rest of the backyard is 1300 sq feet. The front and sides is around 1100 sq feet. Will one charge be good atleast for the backyard? And Generally speaking how is the battery life on a cordless mower? The Ego battery price scares me ($358) if something were to go wrong.

It may be an illusion but your slope doesn't look too steep for a 4-cycle mower from here.

I think he has probably made up his mind since it has been seven months.

I have a slope like this, been using cordless mowers for 12 years, went through at least 3, if not 4 of them... if you don't mind replacing the batteries every 2 years it's fine. The problem is the battery will be 50% of the original cost of the lawnmower and sometimes they are hard to find. My current one is down to $150 but I know it's only going to last 2 more years, so what's the point?

I just bought a gas lawn mower for 2 reasons, 1st, even though it is lighter you can use RWD on those steep slopes with a heavier lawnmower. Also, the cordless will take you 2x as long as a gas mower because it will constantly stall in wet or thick grass and you will still need blade sharpening.

My issue with it is also that since it's cordless, doesn't need gas, oil etc., people naturally think they just have to slap in the battery and off they go, but then after 2 years they notice that they only get 10 minutes out of a charge after awhile. Cordless are fine for very small lawns if you have time to mow 2x per week and it doesn't rain. But gas mowers are really worth the money especially if you give them proper TLC.

where I live the new Ego mower is $800 and the replacement battery is $400, so basically you should invest $1,200 or you may not be able to rationalize buying that $400 battery in 2 years... also you may not be able to find it either!

if you are using a Ryobi and hoping it will last try picking up a replacement battery on Amazon that you can swap when your battery starts going... the more the battery gets used, especially if grass is long and thick the more difficult it can become. Again, once you het the 2-tear mark you should notice a big difference in how often you need to re-charge it

Electric mower is a good choice because we don't need to store the flammable gas in the house. I think there is no definite answer to this question because all mowers have their pros and cons. However, it is recommended to buy the extra battery sets for the cordless mower, so we can always bring a few spare batteries, since your yard is around 3000 square feet.
