my whole house needs updating.

my house is over 100 years old and for some reason one of the owners took down all the plaster and put up paneling in every room but the bathroom and attic. there is hardly any insulation behind it. it's just paneling on studs. i started to replace the windows and doors but had to stop for lack of funds. anything that would be done to my house would be an improvement.

Are the floors already wood? I have a 125yr old house that was in such bad shape that we bought the land and they just through in the house. Every one thought we would burn it down. We too had a limited budget but we did it. I had wood floors under several layers of all kinds of flooring. All were in bad shape but we painted them and they are great. Easy to maintain, beautiful, cheap to do and unique. I would rethink the laminate floors. So many other ways to treat an old house. I think we would be happy to go on this journey with you. If I could figure out how to post pics, I would:)

I had a contractor come over on Saturday. He is going to give me an estimate for windows and entry doors. After that I will have him estimate putting down laminate wood flooring downstairs. At least it's a start. No pictures yet.

Hi pinoc, please keep us updated on the progress. It would be nice to have insulation for the bathroom -- do you live in very cold climate ? What kind (brand) of windows and entry doors are you considering ?

I am having double-hung windows and entry doors put in. I live in Pennsylvania and it doesn't get extremely cold. Most of the renovations will be cometic. I don't have alot of money to do much else. But a little bit at a time and things will get done.

No the floor underneath is not wood. Whoever owned this house just literally took it apart and did the basic. I will be happy with the laminate flooring. I have kids, grandkids and a dog or and a husband so the laminate will work just fine.

One of the problems is we have outgrown our home. We need to purge a great deal.
