Here we go again...

After two weeks of sunshine and not too much rain there is a lot of life in the pots :-) I had been digging up hosta to put them in pots again and slowly everything is as I want it. Only have to wait until they are out a little more to put groups together. We lost a big tree in the neighbourhood and it will be interesting to see how the plants react to much more light. Luckily it is morning light.

Ann, do you also have those little flowers in your spring garden? Beginning of April the woods around here are full of them and I love the bright light and the new green.

We had rain yesterday and I'm sure the pots will look much greener when I come home from work today :-)

Karin..the plants seem bigger everyday :-) ..a couple of pics from today..Dutchman's Breeches have some blooms..and I have small white flowers scattered all over..see one on the lower left?..has only 5 petals instead of 7 like the ones in your photo..

my Valentine bleeding heart is coming up..see another white flower on the left by the bricks..I have lots of brown fern fronds to clip..
the 2 pics below are from last year..there's lots of tiny blooms..they're so sweet..
6 petals on these..the foliage on the bloom by the bricks is different..I might have several white flowers..
Sat I saw these pedestals on a neighborhood website for FREE..they were less than 10 minutes away so I picked them up..I like elevated pots..I might try to paint them..maybe something like this pic below..I have big pots that I hope will look nice on them..
I considered rubbing dirt on them Lol..

Nicholsworth, Free is my favorite price! Those columns are awesome. Are they concrete? You could start moss on them. That would be cool. Also, are those trilliums in your third picture?

Wow, lucky you, I would love to have those pedestals too :-) And for free...somebody must have hated them. Are they some kind of resin? I would also try to give them an aged look, there are special wax paints for something like this.

Your small flowers are cute, especially the one with the yellow/rose flowers and colourful leaves.

My small maple trees get a lot of leaves now and the garden looks so much nicer than two weeks ago. I'm fascinated every spring how quick everything changes from grey to green...

Did your elephant ears survive the winter? I had two in pots, the looked ugly all winter but are getting new leaves now and the bulbs are in the pots and I hope they will grow again...

Elephant Ears definitely look much better outside. They are growing now because the get more sun. The winter has been extremely dark and they really suffered. I take them outside for a few hours every day and they seem to enjoy it.

The hosta are growing now, it is always so much fun to see them again. Not too much losses this year, I will wait a little longer until I make my final count...

Max, the stray cat is looking much better, he has been adopted by the whole neighbourhood, gets food and love from a lot of people now...

A few aloe hybrids I bought during winter, they also love to be outside

Chiemsee Angel, a sport of Blue Angel, it will be interesting to see how big it will be...

    War Paint

    Flemish Sky

    Blue Skin

    Whiskey Sour

Karin..sunshine and rain work like magic for plants don't they?..I wish my Elephant Ears could go out this early..they're too big to move in and out so I need to wait..your hostas are growing fast!..mine too..I didn't take pics today but I have an Undulata Albomarginata that's unfurled..I have epimediums and a Japanese painted fern coming up..it's so great to have my outside plants again..

My EE tubers made it through the winter! Moving them upstairs to a warmer place seems to have worked. I barely planted them today, but they stay inside until June.

Karin, you're off to a good start. Some of yours are so big already. I also enjoy your photography skills. Valley's Frozen Rim has some of the prettiest pips! Also like your Sempervivum and Cordyline. Your Whiskey Sour is so cheerful. .......Any neighborhood that cares for a stray cat is a good place to live!

nicholsworth, great find on those pedestals. I like your idea to change the color to something closer to your house colors. If they're the material I think of from your description, I have some pots like that. I like them because they're lightweight and easy to move.

sandyslopes..when I saw the pedestals I was doing my usual "should I get these or not?" and then I thought "these are FREE! someone is going to take these" and greed won out Lol..I sent a message fast..and I got em..glad to hear that your EEs survived..I love EEs..

Karin, Such a day brigtener to see your spring photos, thanks for posting. Still some little ice balls falling here though the tree buds are swelling and the birds are singing and gathering nesting material. In one month I'll be picking up my hosta order :). I'm curious: how many hosta do you bury for the winter? Any tips for success to share?

Yippiiieee!!!! The first hosta parcels of the season arrived today! It's always so exciting to open them...

here are some new Frisian hosta, I will show single pictures when they have leaves :-) Just as a teaser in advance...

and a wonderful parcel from Dave (tiddisolo), we are sharing since last year and he sent beautiful plants :-)

like this BIG piece of Ivory Coast...

I did not pot them today, just put them all in hiding, because we will have a cold night and I can protect them better huddled together under the garden table...

I love to see new hosta leaves :-)

    mae,

I did not bury them in winter, I have more than 300 in pots now and they mostly stay where they are, I only take care that no water is standing on the pots and tip them over if needed.

    sandyslopes,

thank you for the compliments! I wish we all could take the EEs outside, but it can not be too long now until the nights will be warmer...

After a sunny morning the new hosta are all potted. Had to take my biggest (40 cm) pot for the piece of Ivory Coast I got from Dave :-)

I also got Lakeside Dimpled Darling, Silver Kabitan, Hidden Cove and Ruffed Up from Dave.

This is part of the new Frisian collection. I already had Frisian Waving Steel, Frisian Pride and Frisian Elegance and I really liked their looks and how nice they grow and so I decided to add a few more :-) Looking forward so see them grow...
