what is the process of finish on the exterior brick?

    So, this is sack finished brick, without tooled joints that has been painted. Some of the texture effect just comes from the lack of tooled joints, which has to happen when the brick is laid, but part comes from the sack finish/mortar wash and paint. There are lots of DIY videos on youtube on how to sack finish/mortar wash brick.
