I really thought it was too early yet, but my hostas have decided otherwise. As I went around examining them yesterday, potting those which fit into my fabric pots (I ordered some bigger ones, due to arrive tommorrow), I was astonished to see that most of my hostas are pipping. One of them (Coconut Custard, I think) is actually starting to unfurl. One of my Silver Threads & Golden Needles has tiny pips, as does Blue Jay (LOTS of them), Ivory Queen, Paisley Print, Appletini (LOTS of them!), Pure Heart, Cameo, Cracker Crumbs (I stuck some of those green plant supports in among the last 3, to keep squirrels from digging around in the pot before they can unfurl), Country Mouse has some teeny pips, Grand Prize has small ones, Hideout, Rainbow's End (my new one) has one or two small pips, Ripple Effect, and Virginia Reel. Nothing yet from my other guys, but tomorrow could bring more pipping.

I also watered my garden thoroughly, as I felt that pipping indicates new growing activity and thus ups the need for water. The idiot "Landscape Workers" have struck yet again; they used leaf blowers to blow away the leaves on top of my garden, and in doing so, also blew away virtually all of my mulch. Therefore, on a windy day such as today, there was significant drying of my soil. That's why I decided that a thorough watering was much in order. After I pot up all my hostas, heucheras, and bit of iris, dianthus, etc., I will put new mulch down. Still very much trying to move, so potting up now before there's a bunch of leaves to get in the way.
