What colour do I paint the house?

This house was built in the 50’s and was originally a cottage. Over time many additions have been put on and now it is our house. We live in a very windy and woody area. The house takes a beating with all the wind and rain that Horseshoe Bay Area gets. The house needs painting and I’m not sure if I paint it the same colour or if it needs a new one. Would love some suggestions as I’ve never painted a house so not sure what the rules are. It’s about 1800 sq. ft. These pics are from the front of the house. The back of the house looks out to the woods and ocean but is mostly glass so won’t need much paint. The rot around the windows will be fixed before we paint.

I think the house would look great with black trim, black around all the windows and the siding in white.

The yews can be hard pruned cut to one third the size. It will take a season or two for them to recover, but they'll look better and not hide the house and entry.

I think you could make a better paint choice if you address all the plantings, do your repairs, remove any objects not pertinent. Take more picture then and pros here can advise. Can hardly see the house now. Good luck

I’m not going to address the plantings until it’s been painted as the plants will get trampled on during the painting process. As for fixing and removing items attached to the house, yes I agree and have done this. It’s impossible to take pictures of the house better than this as there is a giant yard in front so I can’t take a picture from the road however I’ve attached an updated photo of the fixed Sills and Overhang Removal from the garage.

Was thinking this brown type panel that I painted and leaned against the house (elephant skin). Reason being that it blends in with the foliage. Thoughts? And if I did this colour, what colour do I do the trim and eavestrough?

I like the white with black trim but we are in a very woody/cottagy type area and the white will show all the dirt. The green colour is really nice as well but my other concern with black trim is that the windows will pop out too much... they aren’t the nicest windows as they are old so I kind of wanted them to blend in? I’m not a designer so I’m not sure. Thank you very much for your thoughts and suggestions! Keep them coming!

I like the color of elephant skin. I think a black or a dark brown will look good on your house and play up its modern vibe.

The soffit should be painted that same color as the base - elephant skin.

Painting the window trim black will make your windows recede more than the current white.

That’s a really interesting property! Please post pictures when you’re done and the vegetation has been cut back. I’d like to see it; it looks like it once was a beauty.

By the way, I have no idea where Horseshoe Bay is - you mention ocean, but that could be any of a dozen states (if you are in the U.S., that is).

My guess is this home might be in the San Juan area of Washington state. Lovely area and home will follow your progress and if I am right about your location I will envy you.

There are areas, like the entry, you might want to do in a cream to compliment the elephant skin. Many modern buildings have more than one color.
