My first impression was a very etiolated Sedum acre, and my second impression is the same ;-).

Sedum spectabile has been renamed as Hylotelephium spectabile. Sedum acre is a separate species.

If it is S acre or S album it is very starved of light.

Ok! Thank you all. I guess I’ll wait and see what it does after growing it out for a while. If it changes I’ll know it is what it says it is, just a very unhealthy specimen. Interested to see if it stays the same.

In your zone, both should be winter-hardy. Gradually introduce to much better light, and it should have more copact new growth. Old, etiolated stems will stay etiolated, so you may want to consider a haircut. It could stay in same spot year-round, and will look much better.

floral, IIRC, the Hypotelephiums are those former Sedum which are deciduous.

Actually, Hylotelephium contains very few species and was restricted to the upright growing herbaceous sedums, not the low spreading groundcover types. And there seems to be some ongoing debate/discussion as to the permanence of this taxonomic distinction :-) Some sources have now placed them back under the genus Sedum. At any rate, sedum is an acceptable synonym.

Not exactly :-) A lot of the low growing, stonecrop/groundcover type sedums are not evergreen. And those are still classified as Sedums, not Hylotelephiums

gg, I have Brent Horvath’s Sedum book at home; I had thought the cold-hardy non-deciduous Sedums were evergreen. Further study is apparently needed.
