Same as above, plus homeowner thinks quartz is bullet proof and does not chip. It does chip.

I do think most complaints about quartz result from the fact that the consumer didn't understand what they were getting. It IS mostly resin, it will melt or otherwise react to heat. While it is manmade, there is still a lot of variation in color and pattern.

Although my kitchen guy noted that he's had problems with warped slabs, as well. Sometimes off by as much as 1-1/2" across a cabinet run. He put the blame on some of the Chinese companies and suggested sticking with the American makers to avoid some of those problems.

My husband is a GC and he just told me a few weeks ago that a recent full kitchen remodel customer already has a good size chip by the sink. She felt like she barely hit the quartz with a plate (not a cast iron skillet) and a piece came off. Yikes!

We have a gray matte finished quartz in our kitchen and we love it. It has the look of finished concrete. We were warned after installation to not put anything hot directly on the quartz as that would cause discoloration.

Matte quartz has been very hard to work with over the years. Nice to hear younhave not had problems with it. ^^^^^^^

Some of the initial issues listed about quartz apply to granites as well - directionality, matching at seams , chipping. Nothing is indestructible. I have had quartz for 10 years. I have a tiny chip here or there but nothing that bothers me and it can get filled, just like a granite.

I do STRONGLY recommend staying with the major players - Cambria , Ceasarstone, Silestone, LG Viatera and even MSI. They appear to have quality product.

I had a salesman come into the store once promoting a quartz from China. I accidentally got a pencil mark on it. Even with a scrubber sponge and windex, I could not get the mark off.

Go into your purchase as educated as possible - this will help you make the best decision.
